Human Rights Advocacy Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Human Rights Advocacy Specialist. In this role, you will play a critical part in promoting and protecting human rights across Europe and Central Asia.
About the PositionThis position is located in the Europe and Central Asia Section of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief of the Europe and Central Asia Section.
Main Responsibilities- Plan and coordinate activities related to thematic and country mandates on human rights, including from a gender perspective.
- Conduct substantive research and analysis of human rights issues/events and assess their impact on the human rights situation in assigned regions or countries.
- Collect and analyze human rights data and indicators in countries/regions of assignment, including gender-specific data and indicators.
- Provide support to sub-commissions, commissions, and other bodies; follow up on implementation of decisions rendered by policy-making bodies.
- Evaluate and integrate information from a variety of sources and assess the impact on the human rights situation in the area of assignment.
- An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or a related field.
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law, or a related area is required.
- Experience in supporting human rights mechanisms is required.
- Field experience in the area of human rights is desirable.
- The United Nations Secretariat offers attractive compensation and benefits packages to its staff members.
- The salary range for this position is approximately $73,578 - $96,266 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
