The Neurolisteriosis group at the Division of Neurological Sciences

We are a dedicated team working on the pathogenesis of neuroinfection with the bacterium _Listeria monocytogenes_, a potentially devastating disease of humans and cattle. Our current focus is to understand how _Listeria monocytogenes_ manipulates phagocytes to survive in and spread from this mobile intracellular niche, with the goal of identifying targets for therapy.

In a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), we are investigating the survival and persistence of the intracellular pathogen in microglia and monocyte-derived macrophages, which are key players in the intrathecal immune response during infection, but paradoxically may also contribute to the spread of infection. Join our team and contribute to the fight against this important pathogen.

Your role:

- You will be a key member of the team
- You will design and run in vitro infections with primary microglia, monocyte-derived macrophages and organotypic brain slices from cows in mono-culture and co-culture systems to explore the interaction/coordination of resident macrophages and incoming blood-bornmacrophages during infection with _Listeria monocytogenes_

Your qualifications:

- Master's degree in life sciences, (veterinary) medicine or related fields
- You are a team player with strong intrinsic motivation and interest in wet lab work
- Curiosity and interest in infectious diseases and the nervous system
- Good level in English and communication skills, driving license
- Experience in molecular techniques and microscopy is a plus
