This position is located in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Thematic Engagement, Special Procedures and Right to Development Division, Methodology, Education and Training Section (METS), in Geneva, Switzerland. The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Methodology, Education and Training Section.

**Responsibilities**:
Within delegated authority, the Statistician will be responsible for the following duties:

- Organizes, designs, plans and carries out the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical data by selecting methods of data collection, selecting and implementing methods for checking collected data, and selecting and implementing appropriate methods for data processing for incorporation into databases.
- Compiles, publishes online and regularly updates relevant data held by OHCHR at the global level, including worldmaps and metadata, OHCHR indicators dashboard and other platforms and tools; advises and supports OHCHR field offices and UNCTs on data collection and indicators.
- Participates in the development, implementation and management of statistical database(s).
- Provides training and technical support on data collection programmes, country practices and other related information.
- Participates in the development or revision of standards on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research.
- Prepares draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assists in drafting relevant reports.
- Organizes and participates in seminars, working groups and expert meetings as a technical resource person.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of statistical data or related area is required.

Experience with researching, collecting, verifying, analysing, synthesizing quantitative and qualitative information pertaining to human rights issues is desirable.

Experience working in, or collaborating with, statistical organizations at national or international levels is desirable

Experience on developing or implementing human rights indicators is desirable.

Experience with designing, implementing and analysing results of statistical surveys or econometric analysis is desirable.

Languages
Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
