Centre for Nature and Climate (CNC)
is setting up a new agenda to develop thought and action leadership in philanthropy, with the aim to catalyse impact at speed and scale through multi-stakeholder collaboration to achieve critical goals across the climate and nature agenda. At the same time, the World Economic Forum’s
Centre for Energy and Materials
(CENMAT) seeks to accelerate the transition to a “fit for 2050” energy system: secure, sustainable and just, which enables positive economic and social development. Within its “Coal to Renewables” initiative, it aims to raise ambition and enable collective action in the coal transition space.
The global initiative

- (GAEA) - Call to Action _looks to build successful philanthropic-public-private collaborations across climate and nature, through three levers of activity:
- Thought leadership: sharing and exchanging knowledge and insights on pertinent issues on the nature and climate agenda.- New partnerships through communities of purpose and action: bringing together stakeholders and champions of the nature and climate agenda.- Programmes to accelerate regional nature and climate action: supporting curation and community building.

Reporting Lines & Interactions
This position will be based out of the Forum’s Geneva office, with a dual reporting line to the
Centre for Energy and Materials
(CENMAT) and the GAEA team, within the
Centre for Nature and Climate (CNC).
Interactions with a broad range of Forum colleagues and external stakeholders, including philanthropic organizations, companies, governments, research institutions and civil society organizations at senior levels is an integral part of the position.
This position will report to Justine Roche, Lead, Energy Initiatives (CENMAT), with a dotted line to Luis Alvarado, Head of GAEA (CNC). This person will be closely in contact with the Growald Climate Fund team, who will help set the strategic direction of the work of this Lead, around incubating the right Philanthropic-Public-Private Partnerships in the space.
Breakdown of main responsibilities- Project management: 70%- Define, in partnership with the Growald Climate Fund and Forum colleagues, a clear roadmap towards the creation of a new financial vehicle for philanthropic capital to support the phase out of coal power assets in Asia and act as catalyst for private capital in this space. Originally piloted in Asia, this vehicle shall act as a new template for philanthropic funders to assist coal retirement efforts around the world. Leverage the Forum’s network to engage, identify, and expand the community of coal asset owners interested in collaborating in novel retirement financing mechanisms through the Coal to Renewables initiative.- Incubate the setup of a global collaboration (e.g., coalition) between public-private-philanthropic players around coal retirement (with a possible initial Asia focus, with the possibility to become global in scope).- Manage announcements and oversee the delivery of its outputs.- Liaise between the Growald Climate Fund and the various Forum teams.- Coordinate marketing and media activities for the initiative, including producing materials, stories, blogs as well as defining a content strategy around elevating the coal retirement topic on global agendas.- Track, document, and report on funder impact management requests. Ensure that all project content is accurate and up to date.- Programme and Events 30%- Design, develop and ensure delivery of events
- _(sessions, virtual connect, face to face meetings)_ and programming relevant to this collaboration with Growald Climate Fund. This includes ensuring this initiative is represented during high-level global events (e.g., COP28, World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, G20/B20 etc ) as well as during GAEA or CENMAT’s flagship events.-
- Ensure planning, preparation, and follow-up activities such as calendaring of events, marketing and invitation / registration process, sending of summary materials etc while ensuring effective processes and tracking through Salesforce and Toplink.-
- Support GAEA and CENMAT for coal-related Forum flagship events - Annual Meeting, Sustainable Development Impact Summit and Annual Meeting of the New Champions etc...-
- Experience project management skills to coordinate different stakeholders across different teams and geographies to keep everybody on track on key deliverables and products.-
