Associate Director, Laboratory Design Lead

Lonza is looking for a Laboratory Design Lead. This is a key lead position providing oversight and ownership of all laboratory design and associated equipment to provide a GxP environment for pharmaceutical development and/or testing laboratories.
You will collaborate with internal and external agents to develop guidelines for specific laboratory environments and provide oversight to existing guidance to ensure it is current and compliant as well as ensuring adherence to the guidance in active large capital projects.
You will also be responsible for contributing to Lonza’s sustainability program for their relevant areas within SGIE.
You will oversee a small team and coordinate with other Leads from Pharma/Bio-Engineering to integrate initiatives seamlessly.
Some global support supervision, guidance and harmonization with GxP sites in diverse global markets with some amount of hands on interaction will be involved.
This position will report into and coordinate with the global the Director of Technical Facility Design to ensure that core technologies are harmonized and implemented effectively globally across all Strategic growth projects.
Key responsibilities:
- Document generation management from initial draft through to final approved versions with various levels of responsibilities depending on document type.
- Provide technical input in support of equipment procurement including bid package preparation, bid evaluation, vendor selection
- Leadership of cross functional teams consisting of Internal Lonza customers such as Bio-Engineering, MSAT, Site Engineering, and Quality Assurance to properly identify design needs
- Provide leadership and technical support during the construction and start-up phase (turnover documentation, IQ execution, initial system operation, troubleshooting and validation support).
- Strategic support for Internal Project Team activities including project initiations and operational readiness
- Collaborate with SGIE staff in the planning and execution of larger, more complex projects and engineering problems to align with the Strategic design and sustainability goals.
- Supervise, train and mentor staff. Create a high-performance team that emphasizes strengths-based execution, accountability, open communication, people development and continuous improvement.
Key requirements:
- Leadership/management in pharmaceutical manufacturing with experience in aseptic processing or biologic bulk drug substance delivery
- Preference to have progressive experience in both operations & other functions. Must have demonstrated positive track record with regulatory inspections
- Design and operation of Biopharmaceutical facilities, preferably Upstream Processing, in both manufacturing and support systems (cGMP manufacturing, pilot plant & laboratories)
- High level understanding of Facility design and GMP requirements
- High level understanding of Clean and dirty utilities.
- Demonstrates role model Error Prevention System (EPS) behaviors
- e.g. 3 way communication, questioning attitude etc.
