**_The role be based in Geneva Switzerland or Hørsholm, Denmark_**

You will be **one of** **FMC’s Intellectual Property attorney**s** based in Europe supporting IP throughout the EMEA region, reporting to the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel. This vital role provides an ideal professional environment for a confident, motivated, commercially minded patent attorney with high levels of autonomy balanced with organization and team needs, and an ability to handle complex, significant matters.

The role can be based either at our EMEA regional head office in Geneva or at our European Innovation Center (EIC), in Hørsholm, Denmark, close to Copenhagen.

**Key Responsibilities include**:
You oversee delivery of IP services to our EMEA region, focusing on our Plant Health Portfolio. You will monitor relevant IP law development in Europe; apprise FMC of these developments and counsel on compliance and strategic responses.

You will work closely with R&D and business stakeholders to
- Handle patent, trademark and trade secret matters as well as provide IP strategic advice for a significant segment of FMC’s growing agricultural business.
- Provide freedom-to-operate, infringement and validity opinions and guidance, based on legal, business and technical considerations.
- Prepare and counsel on Intellectual Property provisions and agreements including confidentiality, material transfer, research, licensing and joint development agreements.
- Assist in enforcement of patent, trademark and trade secret rights, as well as other IP disputes with third parties in the region.
- Work with the global FMC IP team to develop a high-functioning, integrated unit operating in Philadelphia, Shanghai and Copenhagen.
- Set and manage IP budgets in responsible R&D segment.
- Support of FMC’s trademark portfolio in Europe, if you have the requisite experience.

**Qualifications & Skills**:
You bring experience in pragmatic, business-astute counseling on patents, trade secrets, and IP strategy as well as related contract matters. It is important you have professional drafting, communication, and negotiation skills.

Ideally, you have solid academic credentials and a practical roll-up-the-shirtsleeves, hands-on approach to the practice of law. You enjoy working both independently and as part of a highly collaborative, international team, in a cross-cultural environment.

You focus on client needs with a commitment to timing, quality and client service and are receptive to opposing views and can accept and implement the ultimate decision.
- A degree, e.g., advanced, in a chemistry
- or biology-related discipline.
- Experience with patenting plant health or microbial products not required but a plus.
- Admission to practice before the European Patent Office.
- 5+ years relevant legal experience, comprised of law firm and/or in-house counsel experience.
- A proven history of serving as a trusted Intellectual Property business advisor, preferably in international settings.
- The job requires the ability to travel as necessary, up to 20% of the time, primarily within Europe.
