Fotokite develops autonomous, high-endurance tethered unmanned aerial systems to help firefighters and public safety teams save lives.
We are currently seeking a Vice President of Engineering who will lead the engineering department in such a way as to maximise long-term company success. The VP of Engineering is a manager and team builder as well as an excellent recruiter, communicator, and issue resolver. This position oversees execution of engineering projects and delivery of the core engineering roadmap, and represents the interests and capabilities of the engineering department towards company leadership.
**Responsibilities**
**Engineering Projects & Roadmap**
- Collaborate with company leadership to define the core engineering & product roadmap, representing the interests and capabilities of the engineering department in such discussions
- Oversee the execution of externally facing engineering projects in fulfilment of the core engineering roadmap
- Oversee the execution of internally facing engineering projects to improve product design, quality or reliability
- Make decisions about engineering work allocation in fulfilment of engineering projects
- Establish and communicate engineering focus and priorities when conflicts arise
- Coordinate the management of engineering projects to ensure execution is timely and of high quality
**Engineering People & Processes**
- Define systems and processes to improve quality and remove roadblocks from engineering execution & success
- Define systems and processes to improve motivation, personal/career development, and quality of output
- Define and maintain the business rhythm of the engineering organisation
- Define and communicate goals for the engineering department in support of company & product goals and supports the development of team and personal goals for engineering staff
- Oversee high-level resource planning (financial & personnel) for the engineering department in coordination with company leadership
- Oversee recruitment of engineering staff to expand the engineering department as necessary and budgeted to execute on the core engineering roadmap
**General Responsibilities**
- Represent the interests and capabilities of the engineering department towards company leadership and other internal stakeholders
- Provide technical input to discussions with strategic partners and main customers
- Contributing to company-wide planning and reporting, such as budgeting and company KPI reporting
- Occasional travel to our US offices in Boulder and Syracuse
**Education/Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business and/or equivalent professional experience required
- Minimum of 8 years of engineering and managerial experience in a similar senior-level position
- Experience in managing multi-disciplinary mechatronics / robotics projects and teams, experience with aerial systems a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Proven successful track record in engineering management and hardware + software product development
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines with mínimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to manage several short
- and long-term projects simultaneously, while also coaching junior-level staff
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of an organization
- Fluency in English is required, any other languages are a plus
