Field-based position with visits to the headquarters in Geneva_

**Context & Mission**:
For 50 years, MSF has been providing medical assistance to populations facing life-threatening crises: mainly armed conflicts, but also epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. All these situations require appropriate medical and logístical resources.

Determining the level of Quality of Care (QoC), we want to reach in our project is always a challenge; often it relies more on the perceptions of quality, rather than indicators of quality. Therefore, it is important we can measure it.

By doing so, together with the field team, gasp will be identified, and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) will be put in place.

The IHC program is also focusing on patient safety as it is a key quality indicator and an entry door to learn and ensure we are improving the care we deliver. Other aspects will soon be developed too, on Patients and Populations as partner approaches. All this needs to be supported by people trained on these topics to transfer competencies to the field.

**Tasks and Responsibilities**:

- QoC baseline assessment measurement_
- Conduct assessments to measure the level of quality of care at project level using existing tools
- Produce the reporting link to the QoC baseline assessment
- Contribute to the revision and/or the development of new tools
- Support the team to ensure that all data are compiled accordingly and are used to identify health care gaps
- Quality Improvement Plan (QIP)- Preparation and facilitation of QI workshops with the teams in the field
- 3-4 days workshops in the field with the team on their Quality challenges based on the gaps identified:

- Definition of quality of care
- Listing of Quality gaps for the project
- Prioritization of problems
- Root Cause analysis of priority problems with the team
- Improvement plan with SMART indicators created by the team
- Support for the implementation in the units
- Quarterly follow-up with teams / methodology support when needed
- Patient Safety Incidents_
- Support Quality Champions/focal points identified in the field, analysing PSI cases using the different methodology of the root causes analysis
- QI support to improve processes linked to the incident (see workshop content).
- Training of field staff (MedCo, PMRs, PCs, Supervisors, national doctors) in the management of PSIs.
- Conditions & demands_
- Supporting field team facing a complex PSI is sometimes demanding (and rewarding) and require having the right attitude in link with patient safety culture. Your role will be to guide and drive the field team to look at the PSI with a learning approach and that ultimately the PSI is leading to a QIP.
- Field experience: experienced medical coordinator or para-medical staff with medical management background: to have a good vision of the field constraints and issues, HR management knowledge, etc.
- Language skills: French and/or English (Arabic is a strong asset).
- Quality improvement knowledge and/or implementation background an asset
- Empathic, non-judgmental, and able to manage stressed people in a calm way
- Motivated and appreciative of coaching processes
- Perseverant on support and improvement of care-oriented: there is a need to go back to the field teams to get information and to follow-up.
- Discretion (medical confidentiality)
- Mindful of good communication essential role: good communication skills, including ability to emotionally support staff when the situation is tensed.
- Aware of the PSI reporting and learning objectives: ready to support actively the staff up to the improvement plan.

**Terms of Employment**:

- Fixed-term contract, 12 months
- Part-time, 60% (24h/week)
- Working place: Field-based position with visits to the headquarters in Geneva
- Practical working conditions in the field are in accordance with the MSF OCG volunteer manual.
- Ideal start date: July 1st, 2023
- Gross monthly salary: CHF 5’500. based on 100%
- Benefits: Health insurance and living expenses in the countries of intervention and at headquarters, paid according to internal regulations.
