**Purpose of the role**
The BIS is an international organization with offices in Basel and two representative offices (Mexico City and Hong Kong). The Head of Physical Security leads a team to ensure the physical security, protection and safety of people and assets on these premises 24/7, including the planning of security arrangements at official BIS events. This position involves managing a team which prides itself on the delivery of adaptive and proportionate security measures, conducts efficient collection of open-source threat intelligence from a variety of credible sources to produce professionally sound threat assessments, plans security events and maintains security policies and operational procedures.

**Primary accountabilities**
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate practical experience in the security field and line management experience gained from either law enforcement or a security intelligence field (eg. criminal intelligence analysis). Your qualifications and experience positions you well to lead our physical security team which safely manages the flow of people and movement of vehicles and goods throughout our Basel office locations. You also have experience at providing expert advice across all aspects of building security.
Core accountabilities include:
- People: 24/7 physical security, protection and safety of people. As contact with physical security is often the first experience our visitors have with the BIS, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels and roles to direct the safety of staff and visitors to BIS premises in a manner which is sympathetic to the business of the BIS.
- Security and Safety: You will lead the team’s work with colleagues in Facilities Management to ensure our buildings are safe and comply with local Swiss building fire safety codes. You are also responsible for ensuring first aid equipment is available and fit-for-purpose, and that first-aid training meets the needs of the BIS. The planning and running of the BIS’ building evacuation programs, including safety training in emergencies, will also be your responsibility.
- Assess/Advise/Liaise: You will be responsible for the production of detailed security plans for major events at the BIS, and public activities involving external visitors. Open-source intelligence collection and analysis, informing threat assessments. You will lead the efficient collection of information to inform high quality security analysis and produce security threat reports for senior executives which are clear, actionable and timely.
- Administration: You will be responsible for maintaining security policies, procedures and developing threat assessments in English and undertake financial procurement administration. You must also be comfortable with technology, with the ability to manage security-related infrastructure projects requiring secure internet connectivity (eg. CCTV camera upgrades and building management systems).
**Qualifications, skills, and experience**
- Relevant degree in policing, law or security intelligence (or equivalent practical experience), with at least 10-years’ experience in a similar managerial role.
- Suitable and qualified to carry a personal weapon for this role, or the ability to achieve this with training.
- Very good communication skills in English, as the official language of the BIS. Desirable: conversational skills in German, reflecting the locality of BIS headquarters.
- Well-developed leadership skills, with the ability to exercise command and supervise operational planning.
- A confident, energetic self-starter with strong interpersonal, written and oral skills.
- Exemplifies personal resilience, with the ability to work with tight deadlines and perform under pressure (eg. crisis management experience).
