The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking a highly motivated Head of Finance.

IOB is a research institute combining basic and clinical research. Its mission is to drive innovations in understanding vision and its diseases and develop new therapies for vision loss. It is a place where your expertise will be valued, your abilities challenged, and your knowledge expanded.

Your mission, as Head of Finance, is to lead the finance group of IOB, providing partnership, strategic insight, planning, reporting and analysis to the IOB management team. IOB is a small operation, and leaders are expected to have a hands-on, practical approach, as well as being able to provide strategic and operational management.

**Your responsibilities**
- Provide strategic insight and financial planning, analysis, and control for IOB
- Engage with IOB leaders and internal colleagues to manage and support budgeting, long-term planning, asset accounting and grant management
- Engage with third parties related to commercial transactions or fundraising and provide related financial advice for IOB
- Manage and integrate external accounting services and ensure the ongoing payment of invoices
- Ensure regular reporting for IOB management, the Board of Trustees, and 3rd parties where necessary
- Establish and maintain finance systems for reporting, controlling, invoicing, payment, and other processes

**Requirements**:

- Academic or commercial education in business economics (MSc, graduate auditor or equivalent)
- Profound experience in finance and accounting, including business planning and analysis
- Experience in leading a small team and external service providers
- Experience in the financial management of a research organization, especially grant-based funding, as well as financial handling of commercial transactions is of advantage
- Strong strategic thinking
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent skills in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Access and financial systems (SAP and others)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, both in English and German
