This internship is in the Human Resources Legal Unit (HRLU) of the Human Resources Management Service (HRMS), United Nations Office at Geneva.

The internship is for a minimum duration of three (3) months and can be extended up to six (6) months.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five (5) days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of the Officer in charge of internship. The internship is expected to be carried out in-person at the United Nations Office at Geneva but interns are allowed to work up to two days per week remotely from the duty station (within commuting distance of Geneva).

**Responsibilities**:
Under the supervision of the Chief, Legal Team or of a Legal Officer, the intern will:

- Assist in handling cases before the Management Evaluation Unit and the UN Dispute Tribunal (UNDT);
- Search for precedents, gather relevant documentation; analyze the jurisprudence of the UNDT and the United Nations Appeals Tribunal (UNAT);
- Assist Legal Officers in the preparation of legal documents and reports;
- Perform research on a broad range of issues related to Human Resources and International Civil Service Law;
- Assist in drafting correspondence;
- Assist in outreach activities;
- Assist in handling requests to engage in outside activities;
- Participate in Team and Section meetings;
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme in law (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or

(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme in law (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).

Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required; knowledge of French is desirable.
