The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The UNEP Law Division, United Nations Information Portal on Multilateral Environmental Agreements (InforMEA) internship is for three (3) months with a possibility for extension depending on the needs of the Organization.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 - 40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

**Responsibilities**:
Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader of the InforMEA Unit, the Intern will:

- As appropriate support the overall work of the InforMEA Team, including with the preparation of Working Group Meetings, the Steering Committee Meeting, including as appropriate, collaboration with partners and consultants, and in the implementation of the 4th phase of the Collective Intelligence for Environmental Governance project.
- Assist with the tagging of key documents harvested into the InforMEA portal, including but not limited to MEA COP Decisions of strategic importance, Agreement texts, E-Learning modules, text portions of publications against the set of terms and against Sustainable Development Goals, Targets, and indicators, as well as other internationally agreed goals and targets.
- Assist with research and drafting in support of the E-Learning section of InforMEA as appropriate.
- Assist with monitoring and use of the different components of InforMEA by users.
- Management, under supervision, of social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

Education
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a university degree.

Preferred area of study:
Information Science and/or Environmental Law

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.

NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.
