ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT

The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) of the Union which deals mainly with ICT-focused development policies, strategies and programmes, as well as technical cooperation activities, to promote digital inclusion and drive digital transformation at community, country and regional levels. To effectively and efficiently serve the needs of ITU members, BDT is organized into four functional areas:

- Office of the Deputy to the Director and Field Operations Coordination Department
- Partnerships for Digital Development Department
- Digital Networks & Society Department
- Digital Knowledge Hub Department

**TERMS OF REFERENCE**:
Under the supervision of the Head of the Environment & Emergency Telecommunications (EET) Division and close cooperation with members of the EET Division, the intern will:

- Assist with the preparation and the implementation of projects related to climate change and circular economy, in the areas of e-waste regulation and data and greenhouse gas emissions. And assist with the preparation of research into new topics areas in circular economy and climate change.
- Support with the maintenance and updating of ITU databases covering greenhouse gas emissions from the ICT sector and countries covered by e-waste legislation, to ensure the continuation of performance tracking against the relevant targets of the ITU Strategic Plan 2024 -2027 and any other applicable targets set by the ITU membership.
- Produce supporting documentation, and communications and awareness materials including presentations, speeches and briefing notes and assist with the preparation of story maps and other communications tools and social media activities.
- Participate in meetings and workshops with public and private stakeholders, as part of the consultative process undertaken for the development of several research and implementation projects on climate change and circular economy.

**COMPETENCIES**:

- Knowledge of environmental issues, particularly relating to circular economy and climate change.
- Ability to draft clear and concise documentation with good written and oral language skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues and ask questions to clarify work.

**QUALIFICATION REQUIRED**:
**Education**: University degree (or completing an advanced University degree) in the areas of global environmental governance and sustainable development or environmental studies, or an equivalent level of education and specialization in a relevant field.

**Experience**: No work experience is required.

**Languages**: English at advanced level. knowledge of Spanish at advanced level would be an advantage.

**Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short-term or a Fixed-term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.**
