You will be responsible for management of VARO’s ambitious carbon targets and net zero pathway. In this role you will play a central part in the ONE VARO Transformation strategy and interact with various stakeholders with impact on carbon emissions and mitigation initiatives.

You will provide expertise and knowledge of the science, policies, technologies and industry specifics associated with climate change including the international context and evidence base for carbon reduction targets. You will monitor key changes in legislation, policy and standards to identify any impacts these may have on the carbon reduction potential of VARO Energy.

As Climate Program Manager you will report to the ESG Director of VARO Energy.

**Your Key responsibilities**:
**CO2 modelling**
- Develop and maintain carbon forecasting models covering value chain emissions e.g. operations, trading, sales, M&A and business development projects.
- Support M&A project managers in describing carbon target impact and sustainability risk as part of due diligence steps

**Carbon reduction pathways and targets**
- Responsible for developing and monitoring of carbon reduction pathways and targets based on market context, business plans and stakeholder expectations.
- Monitor and report the organizations progress towards carbon targets and develop presentation materials for senior management, ESG report and more
- Develop complementary governance structures e.g. internal carbon prizing schemes, CO2 linked remuneration etc

**Carbon accounting principles and definitions**
- Responsible for carbon inventory, carbon accounting manual and ensuring group wide harmonization of methodologies

**Climate risk and mitigation**
- Risk assessments covering physical impact risk exposure of climate change as well risks and opportunities related to the transition to a lower-carbon economy
- Provide linkage to business strategy process

**Your profile - Essential knowledge, skills & abilities**:

- Multi-year experience from and well developed understanding of the oil and/or renewable energy industry including technical knowledge of refining infrastructure and opportunities to carbon and energy efficiency
- Comprehensive knowledge of carbon management/net zero standards and/or commitment to continued professional learning and development
- Provide technical advice on energy legislation, policy, and operating procedures to support corporate carbon targets and development of advocacy

**Requirements**:

- Result-oriented and “hands-on” mentality with capacity to go into the details and also to take a more helicopter view
- Curious, fast learner, able to learn about a wide range of projects / business areas as VARO seeks to invest in new (constantly evolving) businesses.
- Able to work independently, prioritise time and resources to meet targets
- Outstanding team player with a capacity to listen to and challenge existing views
- Ability to build up strong interpersonal relationships and networks
- Evidence of effective collaboration and partnership working with various stakeholders to deliver outcomes and agreed milestones.
- Excellent presentation, communication
- The ability to convey complex information in into effective messages to engage a wide range of stakeholders including senior management
- Advanced Power Point skills
- Strong modelling and Excel skills
- Excellent English language skills (spoken and written), German or French would be a plus

**Qualifications**:

- A degree in engineering, natural sciences, energy management or similar, or considerable industry experience combined with carbon accounting and/or modelling
- Relevant professional training (with particular focus on energy and/or carbon management, legislation, and communication).
- Background from advisory or strategic consulting firms a plus
