Our Policy & Communications team collaborate with governments and policy organizations at local and national levels. We address legislative and regulatory issues that promote and protect the discovery of innovative medicine, vaccines and animal health products while improving and protecting patient access to care. We take great care to monitor and manage the reputation of our company communicating the work we do to improve lives.
We are currently seeking a **Communications Director** that will lead internal and external communications for our company in Easter Europe, Middle East and Africa Region (EEMEA) and will work in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders to design, select and implement strategies that enable the business to meet its goals. The incumbent acts as a resource to the regional president and the leadership team in the development of communications capabilities locally and in developing and implementing communications objectives in a wide range of priorities, including direct franchise support, policy & market access and pricing issues, issues management, leader and media communications.
**Primary Activities**:
**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
- Serve as a strategic counselor to the Regional President and Managing Directors
- Lead and manage a small team.
- Identify, shape, develop and implement global strategies to positively impact our objectives in the region.
- Lead efforts to raise the company profile with media across region, including international media outlets based in region.
- Act as key spokesperson for the company in the region.
- Support the business with communications strategies and plans that help shape the environment and encourage stronger adoption of innovative medicines.
- Ramp up use of social media to generate awareness of the company and advance business, policy and reputation objectives
- Proactively monitor and manage issues in the media across the region and lead issues management preparedness activities
- Drive industry agenda through local industry association communications working group as appropriate
- Build strategic relationships with key influencers and other decision makers who influence access to innovative medicines agendas in the region: media, thought leaders, key HCPs and others.
- Support the regional president and other leaders to improve their public profile and external engagement through participation in major conferences, through media interviews and strategic social media interactions
- Train, upskill and support country communications teams and be a strategic advisor to managing directors of those countries in the region
- Facilitate information exchanges relevant to communications initiatives between regions/countries and other groups (e.g. Corporate Responsibility, Philanthropy, Regulatory, Legal, Market Access, Policy, Franchises etc).
**Ideal Skills**:
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience addressing strategic communications issues, ideally related to pharmaceuticals or a related area of healthcare.
- Significant experience interacting with senior executives and key external stakeholders including government officials and media.
- Experience living and working in region is required as well as knowledge of the key regional issues impacting the pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience with and expert knowledge of media communications, internal communications and social media.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare including understanding the roles and influence of various stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to identify strategic priorities, bring together different internal stakeholders, and move an agenda forward to resolution and action.
- Ability to work collaboratively and inclusively essential.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and proficiency in English is a must.
- A proactive approach towards shaping the environment is critical.
- Proven ability to deliver results a must. Strong leadership and people management skills, ability to identify and develop talent, and ability to manage and lead through influence are critical
**THE COMPANY**
Our company has had a presence in Switzerland since 1963. With a regional office and manufacturing/packaging facility, Lucerne is considered the center of operations. Approximately 1,000 people work collaboratively at the four Lucerne locations (Tribschenstrasse, Citybay, Schachen and Kriens). A fifth location has been recently established in Zurich, aimed at accelerating the development and commercialization of many of our company’s medicines and vaccines, which supports our mission to save and improve lives around the world. The new location has a target date of 2021 for operational readiness.
