The SAICM GEF 9771 project deliverables, guidance and tools, are disseminated to targeted audiences to facilitate their uptake and scale-up through a communications plan/outreach strategy developed and successfully implemented that includes different communication products and the organization of a project closure event. The SAICM Knowledge Platform increase the current number of visitors and engagement.

Background (Org. Setting)
- The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
- The overall objective of the UNEP’s Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities.
The Chemicals and Health Branch of the Economy Division leads UNEP's sub-programme on Chemicals, Waste and Air Quality. UNEP's programme of work centers around assistance to countries and multilateral environmental agreement (MEA) secretariats to assist in technical scientific issues related to priority chemicals and implementation of the United Nations Environment Assembly and Governing Council resolutions
The Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) is a policy framework to promote chemical safety around the world. SAICM overall objective is the achievement of the sound management of chemicals throughout their life cycle so that by the year 2020, chemicals are produced and used in ways that minimize significant adverse impacts on the environment and human health. UNEP has overall administrative responsibility for the SAICM secretariat, which is co-located with the UNEP cluster in Geneva, Switzerland. The secretariat is integrated within the Chemicals and Wastes Branch of the Economy Division of UNEP.
Purpose
The SAICM Secretariat received funding from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) to execute a global project with the purpose of scaling-up action on SAICM ‘Emerging Policy Issues’ (EPIs). The SAICM GEF 9771 project on Global Best Practices on Emerging Chemical Policy Issues of Concern under SAICM is comprised of three components: lead in paint, chemicals in products and knowledge and stakeholder engagement
Qualifications/special skills
Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public affairs, marketing, or other related fields
Experience: -At least 5 years of experience in communications and outreach activities in an international organization or public institution.
- Experience developing and implementing communications campaigns to enhance a website user base and experience with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is desirable.
- Familiarity with website and social media analytics is desirable.
- Experience in working in communications on environmental projects and understanding of how content creation and dissemination contribute to organizational goals is desirable.
Language: Fluent knowledge of English, knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable.
