This position is located in the Field Operations and Technical Cooperation Division (FOTCD) in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva. The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of the Secretariat of the Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic, and in close collaboration with the human rights Investigations Team.

Description du poste

Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of the secretariat of the Commission and within delegated authority, the Field Interpreter (Arabic) will be responsible for the following duties:

- Provides and produces translation/interpretation/verbatim translation of victims' and witnesses' oral and written statements, during interviews, including during field missions;
- Produces translations of written material, additional policy papers, statements and press releases, including but not limited to media articles and the annual detailed informal report to United Nations bodies, from and to Arabic/English;
- Identifies new terminology material and submits it for consideration of the revisers;
- May function as a team leader of all interpreters assigned to a given meeting (including coordination of interpretations by consultants, quality control and ensuring timely deliverance of identified outputs);
- Checks verbatim records of meetings services to ensure that there is no significant difference between the interpreted and original language versions of speeches and statements that have been recorded;
- Performs other related duties as required.
