**Deputy Head of Monetary and Economic Department and Head of Financial Stability Policy**

Our mission is to support central banks' pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international cooperation, and to act as a bank for central banks. The Monetary and Economic Department (MED) conducts research and policy analysis on a wide range of macro-financial issues with a focus on monetary and financial stability. The role of Deputy Head of Monetary and Economic Department and Head of Financial Stability Policy is a key position in delivering our mission:

- They provide intellectual leadership in our work on financial stability to keep the BIS at the forefront of policy debates.
- They lead and coordinate the support for our representation in international policy forums, notably the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and G20 and oversees the work of the secretariats of the BIS-hosted Committees.
- They contribute to the management of MED as a member of the MED Management Team and as Deputy Head of MED and takes part in governance at a senior level as a member of the Bank’s enlarged Executive Committee (ExCo).
- They represent the BIS externally at senior level.
- be in a visible, senior position within the monetary and economic area of a central bank, international financial organisation, leading research or policy institution or private sector financial services organisation.
- have an outstanding track record in the analysis of the financial system and financial stability in a visible, senior position and have recognised leadership in cooperative activities on financial stability and familiarity with the workings of the BIS-hosted Committees.
- Strong managerial and administrative skills and proven leadership qualities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and outstanding verbal and drafting skills

**Purpose of the job**:
Provides intellectual leadership in the work on financial stability to keep the BIS at the forefront of policy debates.

As Deputy Head of MED, takes part in governance at a senior level as a member of the Bank’s enlarged Executive Committee (ExCo).

Contributes to the management of MED as a member of the MED Management Team (MMT).

Leads, oversees and coordinates the support for BIS representation in international policy forums, notably the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and G20, and oversees the work of the secretariats of the BIS-hosted Committees.

Represents the BIS externally at senior level.

**Principal accountabilities**:
***Leadership on policy analysis of financial stability**
- Leads and oversees the policy-based analysis of core long-term issues on financial institutions, markets and financial infrastructures, so as to keep the BIS at the** **forefront of the intellectual and policy debates on financial stability.

***Deputy Head of **MED**
- Deputises for the Head of Department / Economic Adviser (eg chairing meetings of the MMT, participating in other meetings normally attended by the Head of MED (eg ExCo)).
- Participates in the governance of the BIS at a senior level as a member of the enlarged ExCo.

***Management of the Department**
- Contributes to the management of MED as a member of MMT, which is responsible for the elaboration of strategy and its implementation as well as for the operational running of the Department.

***International cooperation on financial stability**
- Leads, oversees and coordinates the support for BIS representation in international policy forums, notably the FSB and G20, so as to ensure the Bank’s effective role by (i) proactively identifying key issues;
(ii) developing strategies to address them; and
(iii) ensuring the quality of the work involved drawing on the support of the rest of the Department.
- Oversees the work of Committee Secretariats, in particular those of the Committee on the Global Financial System (CGFS), the Markets Committee (MC), the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI) and the Central Bank Governance Group (CBGG). In that capacity,
(i) ensures the quality of the services provided;
(ii) identifies gaps and synergies in the work of the Committees, notably of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS); and (iii) identifies strategies to address them.
- Represents the BIS in the BCBS (observer status).

***External representation**
- Represents the BIS externally in senior groups of policymakers, academics and private sector participants as well as in other international forums.
- Prepares and delivers speeches and lectures drawing on own work and other BIS output.

**Qualification**:

- PhD in economics or finance, or equivalent professional experie
