**Job Summary**
The purpose of this position is to provide VAT support for Caterpillar Swiss based entities operations in EAME, to minimize the risk of VAT being accounted for incorrectly and to minimize the enterprise VAT costs. This will be accomplished by providing day to day VAT advice and support, managing VAT planning, government representation, engagement with outside advisors and supporting VAT compliance activities.

**What You Will Do**
As **Manager Indirect Tax **you will report to the Regional Senior VAT Manager for EAME and APAC and will be part of the 20-member Global VAT Team. You will specifically be accountable for:

- Working with Business Managers, operations personnel, Legal Services Division, Corporate Accounting, Corporate Treasury, outside counsels, government officials, Global Tax Direct and other Indirect tax managers to ensure that Caterpillar Swiss based entities existing and future operations in EAME are structured and operated in an efficient manner with regards to VAT, considering business and operational concerns.
- Advising the Geneva and other VAT Accounting teams in their VAT compliance processes for the Swiss based Caterpillar entities.
- Supporting Caterpillar Swiss based entities in implementing the Global VAT Control Processes and completing the Validation Workbooks and providing continuing support.
- Working with the VAT Technology Team to ensure that the accounting and reporting systems used are configured correctly and deliver Caterpillar’s 3 Key VAT Compliance Requirements of: (i) correct VAT decision making; (ii) compliant documentation; and (iii) complete and accurate reporting.
- Assisting the EAME and APAC Regional Senior VAT Manager in supporting the Global Aftermarket Parts business.
- Representing Caterpillar, in co-operation with local management, advisors, Global Tax Direct and Indirect Tax Managers in all matters dealing with fiscal authorities relating to VAT. This includes managing responses to all government requests, managing government auditors during visits to Caterpillar facilities, managing the representing Caterpillar entities at official government hearings, and managing VAT litigation.
- Determining when outside advisors can add value, choosing the appropriate outside advisor, determining the fee arrangements, and managing the workflow, relationship, and cost/value equation.
- Depending on skills, interests and Business needs, handle VAT matters for Caterpillar entities in some other countries.
- A successful 5-15 years of experience with indirect tax cross-border matters.,
- University Degree in Law, Business, Finance or VAT or other relevant to this role.
- Detailed understanding of European VAT principles, including particularly EU, UK and Switzerland.
- An appreciation of the critical information required to manage the VAT risks within an organization.
- The ability to quickly gain a very good understanding of Caterpillar’s business, the transactional flow of goods and services, both inter-company and to third parties.
- Outstanding communication skills.
- Fluency in English language.
- The ability to explain complex issues to key business partners.
- The ability to liaise with Caterpillar’s businesses to understand current and planned transaction flows.
- The ability to manage relationships with and gain the trust of Caterpillar staff, external advisors, and tax authorities at all levels.
- Knowledge of other European Language (French as preferred)
- Previous experience with a Big 4/Law firm and/or an international group of companies

**Additional Details**:
Travel in EAME territories may be required.
