As the Associate Director, Legal Affairs, you will second the Director of Legal Affairs in all matters and manage strategic projects/agreements.
**Main responsibilities**
- Second the Director of Legal Affairs in all matters (including representing the Legal Function internally and externally, overall management of the Legal Function, decision-making, handling of complex and/or strategic matters, etc.)
- Assist the Director of Legal Affairs with developing and implementing the strategic plan for the operation of the Legal Function
- Monitor and assist the Director of Legal Affairs in the career development of all lawyers and paralegals in the Legal Function and ensure that appropriate evaluation procedures are conducted
- Work with the entire Legal Function to enhance the efficiency and quality of the service provision and the positioning of the Legal Function within the organization
- Supervise the delivery of legal services to ensure that business objectives are adequately supported
- Steady stream of complex legal work, risk analysis, decision-making, drafting and negotiation both on the institutional and commercial legal side
Manage strategic projects/agreements
- Support (or second as necessary) the Director of Legal Affairs on all highly confidential and/or strategic projects/agreements
- Act as a lead business partner to other IOC departments in their strategic projects by providing practical and efficient legal advice as necessary
- Advise on and supervise the review, negotiation and drafting of major agreements
- Establish and influence appropriate legal considerations which must be taken into account when decisions are made
Bring change in work habits and processes of the Legal Function and supervise implementation
- Share know-how across the entire Legal Function
- Enhance written and oral communication skills of the Legal Function
- Propose new ways of working to position the Legal Function at the appropriate level to reach a business partnership model
- Propose and design processes, legal instruments, policies, guidelines, systems, etc. to enhance efficiencies within the organization
- Actively seek to improve programmes or services; offer new and different options to solve problems or meet client needs; promote and persuade others to consider new ideas; take calculated risks on new and unusual ideas; think “outside the box”; take an interest in new ideas and new ways of doing things; is not bound by current thinking or traditional approaches.
**Our requirements**
- Seasoned lawyer in the field of sports (15+ years of experience) or equivalent.
- Knowledge of international sports organization
- Outstanding academic background in law
- Demonstrate legal analytical skills, general business acumen and expertise in several of the core areas of work listed above
- Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to understand complex legal concepts and analysis and translate those to non-lawyers to create practical processes, guidance and training
- Prior success building relationships and communicating with diverse groups of people. Strong internal communicator and stakeholder manager.
- Strong project management skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong teamwork and client service skills; experience exercising influence and managing change while having an open and inclusive tone
- Solution orientation
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to work through challenging situations Team playerEnglish or French fluency, with excellent writing and speaking of the other language.
- Excellent command of the corporate tools and ability to follow the internal user rules (Outlook, etc.).
