The EDPL also provides medical input into all phases of development, starting with target identification, as needed.
The EDPL has line management responsibilities for a number of Early Clinical Development Leads and through them has executive leadership of clinical programs and clinical sub teams ensuring appropriate representation of the programs under their leadership internally and externally.
Key Tasks:
- Sets the clinical vision and strategy for the respective portfolio area; prioritizes and provides strategic recommendations on assigned assets and the platform including on external partnerships for new areas such as novel combinations opportunities and new therapeutic modalities, and BD&L opportunities.
- Responsible to design together with the respective program leads (IPTLs), and other team members as needed, a ‘state-of-the-art’ product development strategy for the respective part of the portfolio and composing assets based on state-of-the-art science understanding and patient, regulatory and commercial needs.
- Liaises with Research, Late Development, and Commercial to ensure smooth project transitions through product life cycle and alignment on the project objectives and deliverables across the portfolio covering multiple MoA across many tumor types.
- Continuously monitors the market environment in order to ensure the program’s strategy is meeting patient, regulatory and commercial needs.
- Has comprehensive knowledge of the scientific, development (competitive) and regulatory landscape to enable state-of-the-art development strategies for all assets.
- Accountable for driving technical reviews for the programs in the portfolio.
- Networks with Key Opinion Leaders and maintains effective external scientific advisory boards
- Drives overall R&D assessment and provides medical assessment of in and out-licensing opportunities of development projects.
- Actively seeks opportunities to represent Bayer in various external forums and panels, such as industry consortia, government-industry panels, professional societies, and patient-focused groups.
- Leads, mentors, coaches and develops all direct reports (e.g. CDLs) and all other clinical staff or other staff assigned in a matrix setting
**WHO YOU ARE**
- The incumbent is a highly successful M.D. or M.D./PhD (preferably with board-certification in oncology or hematology/oncology) with extensive professional experience
- A minimum of 7+ years in developing NMEs through early development phases.
- Experience with a range of therapeutic modalities such as small molecules, antibodies (including multi-specific), targeted radiopharmaceuticals, etc. is an advantage.
- Current knowledge and experience of all drug development aspects in the respective area
- Knowledge of the whole R&D value chain and the key drivers for success
- Track record of achievement in early and ideally also late development within pharmaceutical companies
- Current knowledge of regulatory review and responses
- Exposure to and understanding of commercial considerations in relation to drug development
- Evidence of ability to lead and manage a team of highly qualified scientists to deliver on time, cost and quality requirements
- Able to manage diverse activities to deliver milestones according to set budgets; Sets priorities and organizes a team effectively.
- Able to manage and develop, mentor and develop both direct reports and matrixed team members, including performance management and change management
- Effective resource management including demonstrated fiscal responsibility
- Evidence of ability to lead and implement continuous improvement
- Capable of managing and developing team members from diverse technical backgrounds, including deep technical / scientific expertise
- Creates and sustains a collaborative, innovative and effective team
