**Job Description**:
**Your responsibilities**

You will join the Accelerators Systems Department (SY), which is responsible for the accelerator beam-related technical systems. This position is located in the Sources, Targets and Interactions Group (STI) where you would join the team which is responsible Beam-Machine Interaction studies for all CERN accelerators and future accelerator projects.
This position is dedicated to the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project.

In this position, you will:

- be responsible for the Monte Carlo simulation model enabling all energy deposition calculations;
- support the finalization of the design of the new accelerator elements and will study the implications of optics and layout updates;
- take care of the simulations and, if possible, experimental benchmarks of radiation environments, detectors and effects on electronics relevant for the successful operation of the HL-LHC accelerator, linked to the radiation to electronics (R2E) activities at CERN.

**Your profile**

Skills and/or knowledge
- Experience with simulation of radiation environments;
- Knowledge of particle-matter interactions;
- Knowledge of programming techniques and languages (e.g. Python);
- Knowledge of at least one Monte Carlo code (FLUKA, etc.) is an asset;
- Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a professional background in Applied Physics (or a related field) and have either:

- a **Master's degree with 2 to 6 years** of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a **PhD with no more than 3 years** of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never had a fellow or graduate contract before.
