We look for applicants with a passion for research, a curious and open mind, and a deep interest in understanding adaptive behavior and cognition, with a focus on decision making processes. We offer an opportunity for developing a doctoral dissertation (PhD) on heuristic decision making within the context of an interdisciplinary research program on adaptive behavior and cognition, so the so-called fast-and-frugal heuristics framework.

The Department of Organizational Behavior provides a stimulating and highly interdisciplinary research environment. We value the diverse areas of expertise among department members, who variously hold PhDs, for instance, in psychology, population biology, management, and economics. We publish in top-tier journals in numerous disciplines, including _Psychological Review, American Economic Review, Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Research Methods, Nature Human Behaviour, PNAS, Science, Nature_, and many others. Department members come from several different countries, and the working language of the department is English.

**Job information**:
Expected start date position: 1 August 2024 or a mutually convenient time

Contract duration: The initial contract is one year. The contract is twice renewable for two years, and thus the maximum funding period is five years.

The position is funded by the University of Lausanne.

**Your responsibilities**:

- A minimum of 50% of the graduate assistant's time will be dedicated to the completion of a doctoral dissertation.
- A maximum of 50% of the graduate assistant's time will be dedicated to providing teaching, administrative and research support for the supervisor.

**Your qualifications**:
We are looking for someone with the following profile:

- Strong interests in human behavior and cognition, with a focus on heuristic decision-making processes and their adaptation to the environment.
- Strong motivation to develop a doctoral dissertation on heuristic decision making within the context of a research program on adaptive behavior and cognition.
- Strong motivation to do to cross-disciplinary research on heuristics (e.g., how they are - or historically were - used in management, military, aviation, coaching, or other contexts) and to acquire field-specific knowledge and skills.
- Strong skills in behavioral research methods (experiments, computational modeling) or very strong motivation to acquire such skills.
- Programming skills (e.g., Matlab, R) for modeling and data-analysis purposes or strong motivation to acquire such skills.
- Excellent English proficiency (knowledge of French is helpful but no necessary).
- You must be accepted and enrolled in the doctoral program in Management within the first year of the contract. Thus, you must be eligible for this program.

Deadline: 29 February 2024
- Letter of motivation, including a description of your motivation to pursue a PhD, your career plans, and general research interests as well as an outline of research-relevant knowledge and skills you have.
- Outline of 1-3 potential topics you would like to write your doctoral dissertation on (about 2-4 pages per topic), plus a description of a concrete first empirical research project (research question, methods; 1-4 pages).
- Curriculum Vitae with names and contract details of 2-3 references.
- Copies of university diplomas and degrees; transcripts (indicating marks/grades achieved).
- MSc thesis.
- Examples of research projects if available.
