Join Proton and build a better internet where privacy is the default

Proton is one of Europe’s fastest growing scale-ups, serving more than 100 million users around the world. Since the launch of our first service – Proton Mail – in 2014 by scientists who met at CERN, Proton now provides an ecosystem of well-known services such as Proton VPN, Proton Drive (encrypted file storage), Proton Pass (encrypted password manager) and much more.

Our mission is to build a more ethical and responsible alternative to Big Tech services, with a focus on end-to-end encryption, privacy, open-source and ease-of-use. Our user-first approach has helped Proton grow organically to serve millions of consumers and businesses around the world, with users from organisations including The Guardian, The New York Times and the UN. Proton does not have venture capital investors, is profitable and self-sufficient, and today has over 500 employees representing over 40 nationalities. We're headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with additional offices in Zurich, London, Paris, Barcelona, Taipei, Skopje, Vilnius and Prague.

As one of Europe's fastest-growing companies, we offer the chance to tackle complex challenges, influence millions and shape a more equitable internet. We want to create more than just one of the world's most impactful tech companies: we want to create a new internet that serves the interests of all people. We need you, your voice, your ideas and your ambition to make it happen.

The Accounts Team

Proton Account team owns capabilities throughout the lifecycle of our customer journeys, from the critical acquisition and signup step, to account management while utilizing our services, to effective promotions and checkout flows. The Accounts Team is one of the key engineering teams that are centrally positioned to contribute within all Proton's products.

Purpose of the role

We are looking for a Lead Product Manager to drive the evolution of Proton accounts. Your responsibility will be to grow the portfolio of product capabilities to serve our customers and our business for long term sustainable growth.

What you will do

  • Define and execute a strategic vision for the product across all platforms (Mobile, Desktop, Web and back-end) including both user-level product components and developer-level product components.
  • Define what success looks like in terms of team goals and metrics that align with the larger Proton mission.
  • Establish strong working relationships with and influence business units across the entire Proton ecosystem with a strong direction and convincing product insights.
  • Drive product innovation by identifying internal and external customer problems and devising novel solutions with a cross functional team. Ensure that we are building, shipping and supporting the right products.
  • Lead, inspire and coach the product organization for the Account domain. Be the product leader people look up to.
  • Facilitate hand-in-hand collaboration between product, engineering, growth and marketing to align on the vision and the execution.
  • Challenge yourself and your team to push the boundary of the status quo (product, design, technology) to realize those novel solutions.
  • Set the pace for the teams, help them to overcome blockers and execute faster.
  • Lead the teams through execution. Troubleshoot and solve problems involving multiple teams inside and outside of product, as well as across different business units.

Job requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in product management across web, mobile and desktop platforms, particularly in the B2C context (B2B is a plus).
  • Experience in managing small teams (at least 2 people) directly and about 25 people indirectly.
  • Strategic leader with an analytical and data-driven mindset, with a track record for launching products and features with commercial impact.
  • Strong empathy for the customer, user-centric mindset, and an unwillingness to lower standards.
  • Good sense of business acumen and ability to work closely with marketing, sales, finance and other product teams.
  • A strong innate sense for good UX, with a love for design.
  • Solid project management skills with successful track record of delivering on time and given resource constraints.
  • The right mentality to remove the obstacles and enable the team to move forward. Ability to be hands-on and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical acumen with ability to scope developer-level products (API, SDK) and to contribute to technical decisions.

Why Proton:

  • Work with the best – Hiring at Proton is extremely selective. We believe that small teams with exceptional talent will always outperform larger teams with more bureaucracy.

  • Do work that matters – Proton’s services are at the forefront of defending freedom and democracy around the world.
  • Be part of a movement – Proton is not just world-class products and services; we are also leaders of a broader community-driven movement advancing a more socially responsible way of doing business online.
  • Benefits – In addition to flexible working hours and career growth support, Proton offers other benefits such as free lunch at the office along with a supportive, tight-knit in-person office culture.
