High School Teacher of Mathematics

General Description
The High School Maths teacher is responsible for fostering a passion for Mathematics and mathematical thinking among students throughout the High School. The successful candidate will have an inclusive and creative approach to teaching and will work collaboratively with the Mathematics department to develop engaging and inspirational learning experiences. Candidates should demonstrate intercultural competence and have a commitment to supporting students' social and emotional wellbeing, as well as their academic growth.
The successful candidate will be expected to construct learning experiences that challenge students, support the diversity of learners in each classroom and demonstrate a strong commitment to inquiry, concept-based teaching and learning. Please note that all high school teachers are also expected to teach IB Theory of Knowledge as needed, as well as supervise the Extended Essay and Personal Project processes for students.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of courses, some combination of IB MYP, DP and/or AP. Prior knowledge of these is preferred but not essential. In addition, all teachers participate in our student Personal Development Programme as a Homeroom, PSHE or Service Project leader and are also expected to support an ethos of holistic learning through their support of an after-school club, activity or sport.
Teachers are expected to meet (or commit to a growth plan to fulfil) the community expectations of both our Professional and Teaching Standards.
Areas of Responsibility
Working with ISZL Students
- Teach Mathematics courses in the High School and maintain curriculum documentation for these courses
- Demonstrate a commitment to student-centered and inquiry-driven pedagogy
- Encourage students to appreciate the international dimensions of mathematics and the multiplicity of its cultural and historical perspectives.
- Involve students in planning for their own learning through appropriate and regular assessment;
- Plan and implement significant units of work within a framework of continuity and progression;
- Use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to cater for different learning situations, abilities, and styles
- Offer regular, written, formative feedback on student progress
- Demonstrate effective classroom management that shows an understanding of the academic, social and emotional dimensions of learning
- Participate in Personal Development Week (experiential education trip) and our Personal Development Programme (i.e., teaching PSHE, Homeroom or Service as Action)
- Contribute to the smooth running of the school through performing regular duties and being familiar with school policies
- Lead by example and partner with students in their engagement with the community, locally, nationally, and internationally.
Working with ISZL Colleagues
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure departmental and school-wide philosophical alignment
- Collaborate within course teams to review, develop and refine the Maths courses to maximize and enhance student learning
- Participate in departmental, divisional and schoolwide meetings as appropriate
- Engage with colleagues to deepen practice and learn from each other through regular meetings, lesson observations and professional development opportunities
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to professional learning and curiosity
Working with ISZL Parents and External Community
- Engage parents as true partners in the learning process
- Keep parents informed about the learning of their children, and be proactive in communication with parents
- Display student work to showcase their learning and accomplishments
- Present occasionally at parent evenings
Required and Preferred Qualifications

- The candidate should hold a degree in Mathematics or a closely related discipline and a recognized teaching qualification or certification
- Preferred experience would include higher level mathematics, such as IBHL or AP Calculus BC
Compensation
Compensation for this position will be commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
