OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMMEThe Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals' (IVB) mission is “To promote the health and well-being of all people, in all countries, by advancing the impact of vaccines and immunization programmes through partnership and leadership; policies and guidance; evidence and research”. Our work is aligned with the WHO 13th Global Programme of Work (GPW13), with a central focus to drive impact in countries, to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being at all ages. The Strategic Objectives of the IVB Department include:
- Establishing global immunization agendas, strategies and policies to build and harness commitment to action.
- Promoting research and innovation to increase impact of vaccines, technologies and immunization practices.
- Advancing evidence-based introduction and access to vaccines and immunization innovations.
- Optimizing immunization delivery to ensure high-impact, sustainable and equitable programmes.
- Harnessing Vaccine Alliances and Partnerships, including collaborations with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and key WHO partners, towards cross-programme coordination and collaboration in pursuit of universal health coverage.
- Coordinate the core immunization data collections (annual and periodical) with internal and external stakeholders. Lead the process of the revision of the questionnaire of the annual data collection.
- Oversee and coordinate the work of assigned staff from the Global Monitoring Team working on implementation and operation of routine immunization data management including data cleaning, data validation and production of analytical products.
- Oversee the development and enhancement of different components of global information systems.
- Liaise with vendors (software developers) and users, plan, coordinate and implement training activities for different users.
- Contribute to IA2030 data reporting and participate in the development and enhancement of reporting processes, liaising with all relevant stakeholders within and outside WHO. This includes (not exclusively) contributing to the development of the annual technical progress report, the global report, the update and enhancement of the score card website.
- Liaise with various departments in WHO to ensure proper dissemination of the immunization data in various repositories (global Health Observatory, fact sheets, SDGs).
- Provide technical support to regional and country offices through participation in regional and national review of immunization data to improve immunization data collection and data quality.
- Interpret and provide strategic and technical input to support country impact through WHO regional and country offices, and through key advisory bodies such as the WHO Executive Board, the World Health Assembly or the WHO Regional Committees and SAGE.
Essential: Advanced university degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases, Health Policy, or other related fields.
Desirable: PhD in the above mentioned related or similar fields.
Experience- At least seven years' related experience in the area of data management and graphic presentation of data.
- At least five years' experience in the area of immunization data management and analysis.
- Experience working with information system developers.
- Demonstrated experience at the international level.
- Experience working with WHO or other UN Organizations.
- Experience in setting up data governance across different stakeholders.
- Theoretical and proven technical skills in Data modeling, Meta Data and Data Warehouse.
- Expert knowledge and practical experience in computer applications such as MS Excel and Xmart is required.
- Knowledge of vaccine-preventable diseases and immunization systems with particular knowledge of information systems for immunization programmes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner, and to present detailed factual information clearly.
- Ability to work and/or coordinate diverse groups of stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal, networking and diplomacy skills.
- Conscientious with the ability to take the initiative and work independently under general guidance.
- Familiarity with the UN system, including knowledge of WHO country, regional and global functions.

REMUNERATIONWHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 77,326 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 5806 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
