Background of the team and purpose of the role:

The counselling service aims to provide additional short-term support and psychological counselling to staff where work and personal matters are affecting their psychological or emotional wellbeing, or where their psychological or emotional wellbeing is affecting their work. Providing confidential and voluntary counselling support to staff members and their managers is critical for the health and wellbeing of individuals and for organisational health, resilience, and effectiveness. The Counsellor will also work together with the Ombudsperson when needed to help resolve well-being matters raised through this forum.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Providing support in the following areas: work-related issues, mental health, interpersonal conflict, crisis intervention and psychological first aid, work/life balance, stress management/resilience.
  2. Provide psychological support to staff facing work-related emotional or mental health issues, promoting psychological safety, emotional wellbeing, and effectiveness.
  3. Offer confidential counselling, develop preventive programmes, and collaborate effectively across the organisation to create a supportive work environment.
  4. Case management and follow-up with relevant internal and/or external stakeholders.
  5. Support the organisation in areas of training, toolkits, and support tools for staff/team wellbeing and resilience.
  6. Deliver information sessions on health and wellbeing topics.
  7. Develop external referral list for situations outside the remit of the Staff Counsellor in partnership with existing health care services.
  8. Prompt referral to the relevant HR Business Partner of any issues outside of the Staff Counsellor’s remit.
  9. Provide emergency psychological support for staff members or teams facing situations of acute psychological distress.
  10. Provision of support to employees absent from work for psychological or emotional wellbeing reasons.
  11. Quarterly reporting and debriefing.

Qualifications and work experience required:

  • Advanced degree in psychology, counselling, clinical social work, or a related field.
  • Valid professional license or accreditation in the relevant field.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in counselling or mental health services, preferably in an international or multicultural setting.
  • Strong knowledge of counselling theories, techniques, and best practices.

Professionalism and ethical conduct, empathy and active listening skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to build trust and rapport, cultural sensitivity, crisis management abilities, confidentiality, adaptability, and team collaboration are essential.

Languages:

Written and spoken fluency in English; fluency in French and any additional languages is an asset.

Duration of Assignment: 24 months (with possibility of extension).
