As Site Head of Visp Biologics, you will have primary responsibility for managing both the existing Biologics Operations and driving multiple major CAPEX expansion projects (an additional c1000 FTEs and more than CHF 4 Billion CAPEX over the next 5 years).
This is a significant and complex operation with a total workforce of 3500 FTEs, CHF 1.3 Bn in revenue, 16 active Growth Projects, and an expected growth of 20% over the coming years.
The Operations are in the field of Biologics DS & DP, covering 4 different technologies (Mammalian, Microbial, Bioconjugates, and Drug Product Services) in multiple production lines, at all stages (cell line construction, process development and scale-up, clinical manufacturing, and commercial manufacturing). You will be part of the Global Biologics Operations network and work closely with the different Biologics Business Units (BUs) to support their commercial objectives.
In this role, the successful candidate will manage c14 direct reports and, through others, lead an organization of 3,500 individuals. The role will be reporting into the Global Head of Biologics Operations.
This role operates in a highly matrix organizational set-up and requires close stakeholder management, collaboration, and alignment across the different Functions and within the Visp Site matrix.
As part of the Visp Site Leadership Team, you will drive effective collaboration with the Visp Site Infrastructure Head, Business Unit Heads, Global Functional Heads (Quality, Engineering, and Project Management), and other Divisions’ manufacturing leaders located at the Visp Site.
Key Responsibilities:- Leadership of the Visp Biologics organization, with the leadership team, to deliver base business and growth initiatives in a safe, high-quality, and compliant manner that delivers value to the customers and Lonza. Increase Gross Profit Margin to 40%.
- Engagement, interaction, and adherence to requirements from Lonza to support expectations for operational performance, report generation/presentation, and alignment of the Visp Biologics organization with the strategy of Biologics Operations, the Biologics Division, and its different BUs.
- Lead continuous improvement and drive execution of specific initiative(s) to develop the agility, customer-focus, and cost-effectiveness of the organization.
- Build relationships and engage with customers to ensure alignment and plan execution is delivered in partnerships developed and maintained between the organizations.
- Act as a member of the Cross Visp Site Leadership Team, driving the development and implementation of the Visp Site Master Plan, Business Continuity plan, and all growth projects in line with the needs of the Visp Biologics organization.
- Coaching and development of the Leadership Team, ensuring both alignment and growth as a team and individuals, delivering successfully as a business and as professionals.
- Engage and communicate with the Visp Biologics organization ensuring the people are informed and engaged, inspiring individuals to achieve the results expected from the Visp Biologics Site.
- Act as a change agent and is a LEAN/Six Sigma, (Lonza Business Management System, LBMS) ambassador.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 10 years of leadership experience in GMP manufacturing for biologics DS and/or DP at industrial scale.
- Previous experience as Site Head, ideally leading a Site of over 500 FTEs, multi-site experience desirable.
- International experience in multiple locations and with different functions (Operations and Quality/Engineering/Technical Development), ideally having led a complex Site.
- Experience driving large CAPEX Investment Projects.
- Demonstrable experience in a complex Stakeholder matrix environment.
- Demonstrable experience of simultaneously driving change and performance.
- The role requires the successful candidate to be located in or around the Visp area to ensure on-site presence.
