DevOps Engineer for Weather API

At Meteomatics, we're answering the question of accurate weather data, helping several hundreds of companies and research institutions worldwide to accelerate the energy transition, reduce the business’ impact on the environment, and make products and services safer for society.
We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our team of proud nerds, working on our Weather API - the centralized access point to petabytes of global weather data
As part of our API team, you will develop and maintain the back-end of the Weather API, ensuring trouble-free operation and access for our global customers.
Your responsibilities- Develop and maintain the Weather API back-end as a member of a cross-functional scrum team.
- Shape operational best practices as a core team member in a community of practice.
- Strengthen the knowledge regarding operations within your team.
- Improve existing pipelines and monitoring techniques to cope with the increasing load of the API.
- Share responsibility for keeping the Weather API up 24/7 (on-call duty).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or Systems Engineering or a related field, and/or relevant certifications and qualifications.
- 3 – 5 years experience in developing and operating distributed systems.
- Expertise in monitoring and CI/CD (e.g. GitLab).
- In-depth experience with containerization (e.g. Docker) and service orchestration (e.g. Nomad).
- Professional experience in Python, Linux and Bash.
- Ideally, some C++ knowledge or openness to learn it.
- Good communication skills and ability to coach other team members on best practices.
- Swiss/EU citizenship or work permit is mandatory.
- Cool Playground: An API that serves gigabytes of on-the-fly post-processed weather data per minute. The data is loaded from a farm of back-end servers with terabytes of RAM and petabytes of data storage.
