Internship: Data Science – Cheminformatics (m/f)

To support our Technology Department in the Advanced Materials division, we are looking for an Intern in Data Science – Cheminformatics. The position is a 6-month internship, and it is based in our Advanced Materials Innovation Center in Basel (Switzerland). The objective of this internship is to assist the data-driven research initiatives within the R&D Department of Huntsman Advanced Materials. The intern will work within a multidisciplinary team and will contribute to compiling and analyzing experimental data, creating data processing pipelines, as well as participating in the development of machine learning models for chemistry and material science applications.

Your main accountabilities as Data Science Intern will be:

  1. Compile and analyze experimental data using Electronic Laboratory Notebook platform.
  2. Participate in the development of novel cheminformatics representation and featurization methods (algorithms) specific to polymers.
  3. Development of machine learning models for structure – property relations prediction.
  4. Document data processing scripts and data workflows.
  5. Automation of manual processes for dashboards.

Requirements:

  1. Master’s degree or enrolled in a Master Program in computer science, material science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or equivalent.
  2. Good knowledge of data analytics and IT tools; experience with electronic lab notebook would be an asset.
  3. Programming skills (Python preferred).
  4. Knowledge in chemistry/material science (ideally polymers) is a plus.
  5. Ability to work in a team with good communication skills.
  6. Passion to learn and a continuous improvement mindset.
  7. Fluent in English; any other language is an asset.
