Staff/Lead Backend Engineer - AI-Driven Sustainability in Real Estate - ≤ 200k CHF - Hybrid Join a company that is transforming how the built environment makes sustainable-driven decisions. Our client is an established and highly respected player in the sustainable real‑estate sector, developing advanced AI‑driven decision‑intelligence software that helps decarbonise buildings while improving asset and portfolio performance. The Role Drive the development of critical backend systems at the core of the platform. Shape technical direction, architect scalable solutions, and help build the infrastructure that powers complex data and optimisation workflows. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you will set standards, guide team members, and ensure technical excellence as the company continues to scale. Architect, design, and deliver innovative solutions end‑to‑end—from prototype to production. Define backend best practices, drive architectural discussions, and improve system reliability. Simplify complex requirements into clean, scalable technical approaches. What You Bring You thrive in fast-paced environments and excel at making sound technical decisions amid ambiguity. You care deeply about building elegant, robust systems, and you bring energy, clarity, and empathy to the teams you work with. Motivated by customer-centric outcomes and enjoy solving impactful technical problems. This is a hybrid role and can pay up to 200k CHF. Ideals MSc in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field. 6+ years of experience building and operating data-intensive backend systems. Strong expertise in system architecture, algorithms, and performance optimisation. Proven experience shipping and scaling backend systems in fast-moving environments (e.g., Python, C++). Experience bridging production‑grade engineering with research domains (e.g., optimisation, ML). Ability to balance speed and quality, making sound engineering trade-offs.Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Willingness to work from the Zurich office (3 days a week). Nice to Haves Experience in a high-growth startup or scale-up environment. Knowledge of financial modelling or physics-based simulations.
