Staff/Lead Backend Engineer - AI-Driven Sustainability in Real Estate - ≤ 200k CHF - Hybrid

The Role:

As Staff/Lead Backend Engineer, you will;

  • Drive the development of critical backend systems at the core of the platform.
  • Shape technical direction, architect scalable solutions, and help build the infrastructure that powers complex data and optimisation workflows.
  • This is a hands-on leadership role where you will set standards, guide team members, and ensure technical excellence as the company continues to scale.
  • Architect, design, and deliver innovative solutions end-to-end-from prototype to production.
  • Define backend best practices, drive architectural discussions, and improve system reliability.
  • Simplify complex requirements into clean, scalable technical approaches.

This is a hybrid role and can pay up to 200k CHF.

Ideals:

  • MSc in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of experience building and operating data-intensive backend systems.
  • Strong expertise in system architecture, algorithms, and performance optimisation.
  • Proven experience shipping and scaling backend systems in fast-moving environments (e.g., Python, C++).
  • Experience bridging production-grade engineering with research domains (e.g., optimisation, ML).
  • Ability to balance speed and quality, making sound engineering trade-offs.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Willingness to work from the Zurich office (3 days a week).

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience in a high-growth startup or scale-up environment.
  • Knowledge of financial modelling or physics-based simulations.
