Accountabilities

The Head of Global Accounting and Consolidation will be responsible for overseeing the global accounting and consolidation processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with international statutory guidelines and industry-specific regulations. This role acts as a key financial leader, consolidating financial results across multiple entities and regions, including EMEA, APAC, and the Americas, and serving as a strategic partner to senior management by providing insights into financial performance and best accounting practices. The individual will ensure the alignment of accounting standards (such as IFRS and GAAP) across all global subsidiaries, while driving the continuous improvement of global financial reporting processes through automation and the adoption of innovative financial systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the entire global accounting and consolidation process for the company, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with IFRS and local GAAP requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory guidelines, legal requirements, and industry-specific regulations, especially those affecting the fashion and retail sectors.
  • Serve as a technical expert on complex accounting issues (e.g., revenue recognition, lease accounting, inventory valuation), providing research and analysis to apply relevant accounting guidance.
  • Prepare group consolidated financial and management reports for the executive team, providing clear insights and actionable recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Drive the creation and presentation of financial dashboards with key performance indicators (KPIs), specific to the retail and fashion industry, such as margin analysis, inventory turnover, and store profitability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, merchandising, and supply chain, to ensure accurate financial data consolidation and reporting across all functions.
  • Implement and oversee internal control systems, ensuring best practices in accounting and financial reporting, with a focus on safeguarding the company’s assets and ensuring transparency in the financial process.
  • Lead the global financial close process, ensuring all subsidiaries are aligned with corporate policies and meeting deadlines.
  • Take responsibility for external audits, ensuring all relevant audit requirements are met efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Manage relationships with key external stakeholders, including auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies.
  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals globally, promoting continuous development and upskilling to meet evolving industry needs.
  • Implement global financial systems improvements and drive the automation of reporting and consolidation processes to enhance accuracy and reduce manual workload.
  • Oversee ad-hoc financial projects such as mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures, providing necessary financial due diligence and integration support.
  • Conduct regular financial health checks, specifically focusing on areas like currency exposure, working capital management, and stock obsolescence, which are crucial for fashion companies operating globally.
  • Work closely with senior management, advising on potential risks, opportunities, and strategies related to global financial and accounting matters.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting and financial consolidation, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, preferably within the fashion or luxury retail industry.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; an MBA or professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is highly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of IFRS and other relevant accounting standards; knowledge of US GAAP is a plus.
  • Proven experience working in multinational organizations with complex, multi-entity consolidations.
  • Strong knowledge of financial systems and reporting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Hyperion) with a focus on automation and efficiency in consolidation processes.
  • Expertise in handling the unique financial aspects of the fashion industry, including inventory management, seasonal reporting, and cost structure analysis.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a track record of building and managing high-performing teams across different regions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and work across global departments.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, dynamic environments, with a preference for fashion or retail sectors that require adaptability and agility in financial operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in improving financial processes, leading system implementations, and driving efficiencies in large-scale organizations.
