Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about the work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in a multilateral context?

We offer:
Traineeships of 4 to 6 months within the following sections of the EU Delegation to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, starting in mid-February 2025, subject to budget availability.

Trainees are fully integrated into the daily work of the sections, providing the trainee with the possibility of getting a good overview of the diplomatic work of the Delegation, particularly in the policy field covered by the section.

  • Human Rights Section:
    Main tasks:
    Contributing to the drafting of briefings, assisting in the preparation of meetings (research and drafting of statements), preparing draft reports on EU/OHCHR/Human Rights-related meetings, conferences, and events, overall analysis of Human Rights policies in various countries, general logistics support, participation in the Human Rights Council and Universal Periodic Review meetings as well as various working groups.
  • Humanitarian and Migration Section:
    Main tasks:
    Provide active input to the EU Delegation's tasks of representation and EU coordination in the area of humanitarian affairs, refugees, and/or migration, contribute to the interaction between national diplomatic and administrative systems and the EU, take part in meetings ensuring timely and quality reporting, draft notes/briefings on humanitarian affairs, and assist in organizing meetings and events at the EU Delegation.
  • Economic Affairs, Development, Environment and Digital Section:
    Main tasks:
    Assist the Head of Section and colleagues in their daily work related to UN agencies and bodies, assist in meeting preparations (research and drafting of statements), draft reports following meetings and conferences, assist in the preparation of official visits, and provide general logistics support.
  • Labour and Social Affairs Section:
    Main tasks:
    Prepare background notes, analytical reports, summary of relevant ILO meetings, provide administrative support to the ILO Team, support in drafting reports, organizing meetings, and researching specific policy topics.
  • Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Section:
    Main tasks:
    Assist the Head of Section and colleagues in their daily work related to UN and other multilateral meetings in disarmament, assist in meeting preparations, draft reports following meetings, assist in the preparation of official visits, and provide general logistics support.
  • Health Section:
    Main tasks:
    Assist section colleagues in covering EU activities in WHO, attend meetings and events, prepare background notes and analytical reports, assist in meetings of WHO and other health-related bodies, and support team in drafting reports and organizing meetings.
  • Communication Section:
    Main tasks:
    Support the social media work of the Delegation, including drafting social media posts, producing videos, developing new campaigns, drafting news stories for the Delegation's website, and providing support in the organization of events.

We look for:
Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Knowledge of the European Union and the United Nations.
  • Excellent drafting skills in English; knowledge of French is a strong advantage.
  • Understanding and previous internships in the specific area to which the candidate applies are considered an asset.

Important information to read before applying:
Before applying, you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship.

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. As an indication, 2024 monthly grants are published here. These amounts may be revised for traineeships starting in 2025. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.
Citizens from EU Member states:

  • Must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation.
  • Must hold a relevant entrance visa and/or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with local legislation.
