- 4 months**Responsibilities**:

- The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. This position is located in the Geneva Environment Network Secretariat (GEN), Europe Office, United Nations Environment Programme. The GEN is a cooperative partnership of over 75 environment and sustainable development organizations and secretariats based in the International Environment House and elsewhere in the Geneva area, including United Nations offices and programmes, academic institutions, local authorities, and non-governmental organizations. Established in 1999, GEN organizes and hosts meetings, roundtables, briefings and workshops promoting the dissemination of information and public awareness of environmental issues. In addition, GEN actively promotes increased cooperation and networking among its partners and develops a weekly newsletter highlighting the latest news, resources, events and job opportunities in the region. The service of a consultant is required to contribute to the activities and outputs of the GEN Secretariat. The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the GEN Coordinator, to develop the activities agreed at the annual donor meeting, in support to upcoming global environmental negotiations and other major environmental meetings. More particularly the incumbent will focus on the chemicals, waste and pollution agenda, including ending plastic pollution, developing a science-policy panel, as well as minerals and resources and developing the Geneva Environment Network resources on these topics. The Research and Communications Consultant will be responsible for: 1) carrying out technical research and data analysis on the thematic areas defined as priorities at the annual donor meeting, primarily on chemicals and pollution, including plastic and the environment, as well as nitrogen and mineral resources; 2) developing articles reviewing expertise of international Geneva in chemicals, waste and pollution, as well as minerals and resources, and other related topics; 3) co-coordinating and developing the Geneva Beat Plastic Pollution Dialogues and the plastic and the environment resources, as well as briefings, dialogues and sides events on Chemicals and Waste Negotiations, and pollution-related issues, including the SPP OEWG; 4) co-developing other materials, tools and activities to enable the Geneva Environment Network to serve its community, increase its visibility and enhance the reach; 5) developing social media activities and carrying out web-based updates; 6) co-organizing other virtual, hybrid and in-person multi-stakeholder events of the secretariat; 7) contributing to the overall secretariat activities as required

- Language: Excellent proven writing and editing skills in English required. Good knowledge of French is an advantage. Any other UN official language an asset.
