The position of Dealer Forecasting Specialist covers several regional district offices, and supports Dealer Statistical Forecast Accuracy improvement metric for the corresponding regional dealers.
The quality of the S&OP process is critical both for Caterpillar and for its dealers.
In order to improve these metrics it must:
- Have a foundational knowledge of statistics and forecasting software to prepare individual dealer forecasts in an 18 month horizon.
- Work with the Business Economics team to identify data inputs like regression analysis, where adjustments can lead to improved dealer forecast accuracy results.
- Monitor input parameters to the process that are owned by Business Economics, the product groups and the industry groups, therefore outside of Dealer Forecast Team direct control (i.e. Cat forecast accuracy).
As the regional Dealer Forecasting consultant for dealers, the position must:
- Execute the Dealer Machine Forecast process per standard work provided.
- Analyze the Caterpillar S&OP Machine Forecast and disaggregate and communicate to the dealers via the Dealer Planning Application (DPA) tool.
- Coordinate the dealer forecast between Product Groups and Dealers to help create an accurate demand signal that the dealers are comfortable enough to execute an order plan each month.
- Support Dealers that already have a sophisticated S&OP process and tools like Forecast Pro, by helping with data uploads and using Caterpillar databases to customize regional forecasting instances for those dealers.
- Coordinate/Advise Distribution Services Division (DSD) work stream managers on Dealer S&OP improvement particularly in the area of forecast and demand management.
The dealer S&OP feeds the Caterpillar S&OP monthly cycle. The dealer forecast supports an order pattern that strongly influences manufacturing planning decisions. Therefore, the position must:
- Provide the Dealers, Product Groups, and Industry Demand/Velocity with a dealer forecast that is aligned with the Caterpillar S&OP regional forecast to support the production schedule and the Caterpillar regional sales forecast.
- Actively work with the Business Economics group, Product Groups, and the dealers to maintain high forecast accuracy.
On a more global scale, the position must:
- As a regional Dealer Forecaster, must understand the regional market, dealer territories, product mix, and any other pertinent information that can influence dealer forecast accuracy.
- Represent their region dealers regarding Forecast Accuracy metrics, economic indicators, forecast inputs, and process governance.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
This position typically requires a 4 year college degree and/or equivalent work experience in a related field. In addition, five to eight years of progressively responsible job-related experience including Forecasting, Demand Management, Dealer S&OP and/or Machine Velocity experience are typically required.
Must have thorough understanding of S&OP processes, a good understanding of Excel, databases, and of Industry Groups, Product Groups, DSD and dealer business drivers. Demonstrated skills in project management on a regional level. Knowledge of data analysis, statistical forecasting software and processes is preferred.
Must have ability to interface with global project teams, have an analytical mind, strong organizational skills and strong ability to coach others.
