Student Job Position: Software Engineer for Medical Technology (30-40%)

The AIMI lab at the University of Bern's ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research is seeking software engineer student applications with programming expertise to contribute to innovative surgical technology projects. We are looking for motivated candidates with strong technical skills to be part of our research team.

The selected candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining software solutions for a cutting-edge interventional diagnostic technology aimed at providing real-time diagnostics to surgical and medical staff during cancer procedures. Prior experience in healthcare is not required - we value a passion for learning and innovation in the field.

Required Experience and Skills:
  • Strong proficiency in Python development.
  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub.
  • Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal.
Other Desirable Skills:
  • Understanding of fundamental concepts of functional programming.
  • Experience with UI development, particularly Qt/Qt Quick frameworks.
  • Ability to work with NumPy and PyTorch libraries.
  • Knowledge of languages like C++ or Rust for systems development.
  • GitHub account with demonstrable projects (personal or professional).

The AIMI lab provides a stimulating and diverse environment for conducting competitive research alongside a multidisciplinary team. As part of the Center for AI in Medicine, connected to the Bern University Hospital (Inselspital), our focus is on leveraging AI in healthcare to enhance patient care through innovative research initiatives.

More About the Positions:

This position is initially funded for 1 year, with the possibility of extension. The ideal candidate would be a student seeking a 30-40% commitment, potentially increasing to 80-100% during off-semester periods.

Proficiency in English is essential as it is the primary language at the ARTORG center. German language courses are available for those interested. While there are no teaching responsibilities associated with this role, opportunities may arise for those inclined.
