PhD Student - Full-Time

PrecisionLab, overseen by Prof. Jose Garcia-Tirado, is dedicated to advancing technologies for managing diabetes and metabolic disorders through innovative digital interventions. These interventions include advanced decision-support tools, automated insulin delivery systems, and the creation of mathematical models for precision medicine to drive the future of personalized therapeutics.

Job Focus
A doctoral position is open in the Technology-Enabled Precision Medicine for Metabolic Disorders (PrecisionLab) group, led by Prof. Jose Garcia-Tirado and co-supervised by Prof. Lia Bally. The role involves contributing to digital twin technologies to predict physiological variables and provide actionable insights to enhance cardiometabolic health in women throughout their lives. This work aims to evaluate the effects of lifestyle changes, treatments, and medications with a focus on female-specific needs, particularly during critical life stages like post-pregnancy complications and menopause. Moreover, the position entails engaging in interdisciplinary initiatives involving the target population and implementing technology in clinical trials.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in biomedical, biological, chemical, or related engineering disciplines with expertise in simulation, process modeling, and dynamic systems analysis.
  • Proficiency in physiological modeling and/or compartmental modeling.
  • Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink; knowledge of Python is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and motivation.
  • Effective communication abilities and a willingness to collaborate with varied partners.
  • Capability to work in a diverse, interdisciplinary team.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Understanding of medical sciences statistics is advantageous.
