Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, is dedicated to saving children's lives and improving public health through the equitable distribution of vaccines in lower-income countries.

The Alliance brings together various stakeholders, including implementing country and donor governments, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, and private sector partners such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Utilizing innovative financing mechanisms, Gavi ensures sustainable funding for vaccines by engaging recipient countries in co-financing efforts.

Since 2000, Gavi has played a crucial role in immunizing over 981 million children and preventing more than 16 million future deaths.


THE ROLE

Gavi's strategy, known as 'Gavi 5.0' and now updated to 'Gavi 5.1,' aims to enhance the equity of vaccination programs by reaching marginalized children in the world's poorest nations, ultimately saving millions of lives.

The updated strategy focuses on sustaining successful immunization programs in former Gavi-eligible countries and providing access to new Covid-19 vaccines to address the health and economic impacts of the ongoing pandemic.

The Strategy team is instrumental in driving the rapid deployment of Gavi 5.0/5.1, encompassing designing operational approaches, supporting country teams, shaping new partnership models, and enhancing performance management within the Gavi Secretariat.

The team will also spearhead the development of Gavi's 6.0 strategy set to commence in 2023.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:
  • The Manager will assist in designing and launching innovative strategies for Gavi 5.0.

Reporting to the Head of Strategy, the Manager will contribute to strategy development by providing analytical insights, overseeing processes, coordinating project teams, and generating evidence-based discussions for the Alliance leadership.

Collaborating with Alliance members, the Manager will help formulate recommendations for the CEO and Board, driving the implementation of new approaches effectively.

Among the key areas of focus are initiatives addressing:
  • Programmatic and financing strategies to reach zero-dose children with life-saving vaccines, especially in conflict or emergency zones, ensuring global adoption and seamless execution.
  • Acceleration of vaccine coverage for unreached children in critical countries like Nigeria and India, identifying impactful investments that Gavi should champion.
  • Evolution of Gavi's goals, objectives, and operational model in the Gavi 6.0 strategic phase, considering factors such as the Covid-19 pandemic, global health challenges, and future pandemic preparedness.
  • Optimization of performance management processes within the Gavi Secretariat to align with strategic priorities effectively.

Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience, including involvement in strategy development or management consulting, with preference for global health or nonprofit sector exposure.
Skills/Competencies:
  • Strong analytical skills, particularly in global health;
  • Structured strategic thinking capabilities;
  • Effective project management expertise;
  • Ability to influence beyond formal hierarchies;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
  • Capacity to thrive in multicultural environments and collaborate across teams;
  • Confidence and diplomacy in interactions with senior leadership;
  • Independence, resilience, initiative, and flexibility in high-pressure settings.
Languages:
  • Fluent in English;
  • Additional languages beneficial, especially French.
Academic Qualifications:
  • Degree in business administration, public health, medicine, public policy, economics, or related fields.
