Genf, Genf, Schweiz Inter-Parliamentary Union Vollzeit
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is the global organization of national parliaments. It is the oldest political multilateral organization in the world, dating back to 1889. The IPU promotes the peaceful settlement of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. Its mission is to work for stronger parliaments and better democracies. Its current membership stands at 180 Member Parliaments.

The IPU for many years has been engaging in parliamentary dialogue and cooperation across religions, beliefs and cultures to promote peaceful coexistence, inclusion and the rule of law.

In the context of several IPU Assemblies, the membership adopted relevant outcome documents.

These include the Quebec City Declaration on Citizenship, identity and linguistic and cultural diversity in a globalized world, the St.

Petersburg Declaration on Promoting cultural pluralism and peace through interfaith and inter-ethnic dialogue, and the Manama Declaration on Promoting peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies: Fighting intolerance.

In 2023, the IPU convened the first Parliamentary Conference on

Interfaith Dialogue:

Working together for our common future (Marrakesh, 13-15 June 2023), organized together with the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco, in cooperation with Religions for Peace and with the support of the Mohammadia League of Religious Scholars and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.

The Conference was attended by some 700 delegates, including over 70 parliamentary delegations and other stakeholders - representatives of governments, religions, beliefs, faith-based and civil society organizations, international organizations and academia.

The Conference concluded with the presentation of the Marrakesh Communiqué, which outlined a road map for joint action ahead.

The IPU also published Part 1 of the Parliamentary Report on Religion and Belief:

Working towards more peaceful and inclusive societies which outlined ways that religion and belief were institutionally present in the life and work of parliaments.

Building on these activities and in line the policy priorities of the Strategy, the IPU is preparing a second edition of the Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, together with the Italian Parliament, which is anticipated to take place in Rome in 2025, to coincidence with the Jubilee year announced by Pope Francis.

The IPU is also compiling Part 2 of the Parliamentary Report on Religion and Belief, which will map good practices of parliamentarians in promoting peace, inclusion and the rule of law.

In addition, the IPU continues to develop its work in responding to global conflicts with a religious or belief dimension through dialogue and diplomacy.
