DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
  • Collaborate with national Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) programs to identify and understand emerging challenges and lead the creation of WHO technical resources (such as guidelines and strategic guidance) to support health ministries in addressing these challenges.
  • Identify areas that require new evidence to guide decision-making and keep global research initiatives and organizations informed about these priorities.
  • Offer technical knowledge in the development and assessment of diagnostics for soil-transmitted helminthiases and other NTDs.
  • Explore ways to integrate NTD activities across existing community and primary care platforms, and design and assess innovative tools/strategies to recommend the most effective and efficient solutions.
  • Track and communicate global progress towards meeting the 2030 targets and milestones for soil-transmitted helminthiases and other NTDs.
  • Anticipate global requirements and ensure availability of essential medications and diagnostics necessary to manage and eliminate soil-transmitted helminthiases, schistosomiasis, and other NTDs as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Essential: An advanced university degree in Epidemiology, Parasitology, Public Health, Medicine, or related fields relevant to the role.
  • Desirable: PhD in Epidemiology, Parasitology, Public Health, Medicine, or related fields relevant to the role.

Experience

  • Essential: A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in managing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating NTD Control or Elimination Programs, with experience in formulating health policies and strategies.
  • A minimum of 5 years of international experience.
  • Desirable: At least 5 years of experience in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating integrated NTD activities at national and sub-national levels.
  • Experience collaborating with various organizations and institutions, including multinational entities, governmental and non-governmental bodies, academic institutions, and global partnerships related to NTDs.
  • Experience in guideline or policy development.

Skills

  • In-depth understanding of neglected tropical diseases science, particularly concerning intestinal helminths and schistosomiasis.
  • Capability to plan, execute, and assess multidisciplinary public health programs, including disease control or elimination initiatives.
  • Strong aptitude in devising and implementing policies and strategies.
  • Proficiency in effective and diplomatic communication with external partners like health ministries, donor institutions, civil society, and other stakeholders.
  • Commitment to productive collaboration with key partners in the neglected tropical disease domain.
  • Proficiency in resource mobilization and management.
  • Expertise in applied epidemiology, survey methodology, parasitology, and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in documenting and applying findings from public health research.
  • Capability to translate policies and guidelines into practical implementations.
  • Familiarity with the GRADE method for formulating recommendations.
  • Exceptional writing capabilities.
