Your responsibilities

The Medipix3 Collaboration consists of 22 esteemed academic and research institutes dedicated to developing innovative pixel detector readout ASICs for particle imaging and detection applications.

The Collaboration has successfully created two cutting-edge pixel detector readout chips (ASICs), Medipix3 and Timepix3, that are widely utilized. The Medipix team, based in the Microelectronics Section of the ESE group at CERN, leads ASIC development and offers essential support to Collaboration members and commercial licensees.

Upon completion of training, you will be joining the technical support team for the Collaboration within the PH-ESE-ME section and will undertake the following tasks:

  • Providing technical and logistical support to collaboration partners worldwide and at CERN
  • Coordinating production and assembly of electronic test cards for ASICs
  • Conducting ASIC wafer probing and selecting known good die
  • Maintaining a components database
  • Procuring electronic components
  • Designing printed circuit boards

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Up to 2 years of experience in electronics
  • Basic knowledge of electronics board and systems design, testing, and production
  • Basic familiarity with CAD tools for schematic and layout of circuit boards
  • Proficiency in English, and knowledge of French is advantageous

Eligibility criteria

  • You are a citizen of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
  • At the application deadline, you must have up to two years of professional experience since graduation in Electronics or a related field with a general secondary education diploma as your highest qualification
  • You have not previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract
  • Applicants with a Bachelor, Master, or PhD degree are excluded

About the Position

CERN is offering a 24-month contract for a Technical Support Team Member with a possible extension up to 36 months. The role provides a monthly stipend of 4569 Swiss Francs (net of tax), comprehensive health coverage, and membership of the CERN Pension Fund. Other benefits include paid leave, family allowances, and language courses.
