About us:
Machine learning enables the modeling of highly complex relationships in medicine and the discovery of previously unknown patterns. The Neuro Intensive Care Unit at the University Hospital Zurich is at the forefront of research in this area.
Vital parameters such as blood/intercranial pressure, oxygen saturation, and EEG signals are recorded with high temporal resolution and processed for real-time visualization and analysis.
In addition, blurred as well as thermal video feeds are captured to retrieve contextual information from the patient's bed site.
Based on these collected data, algorithms are trained or developed to predict critical states of patients (e.g., oxygen deficiency, increased brain pressure, or epileptic seizures), enabling the proactive addressing of complications.

Responsibilities
:
- Set up and improve data capture pipelines for visual and thermal camera feeds.
- Develop object detection models using both camera modalities.
- Coordinate and contribute to the labeling of video data for training and testing.
- Train models for patient segmentation and motion detection.
- Develop methodologies for motor performance assessment.
- Supervise semester students and closely collaborate with medical doctors on data science and medical AI questions.
- Communicate research results in an interdisciplinary environment
Requirements
:
- Ph.
- Strong knowledge of stateoftheart image processing libraries.
- Strong knowledge of deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) for implementing and optimizing detection models.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
- Creative problem solver with the ability to contribute innovative ideas to the project.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.
- Fluent in English. Knowledge of German is a plus.
