The Position

As a Human Rights Compliance Intern, your main role is to produce a Human Rights Maturity Assessment, involving evaluating and measuring the company's commitment and progress in promoting and respecting human rights across its global operations, against voluntary and mandatory standards and benchmarking with best practices of other peer companies. This assessment will be a key building block of the Roche Human Rights Program.

As a sustainability and innovation intern, you will work on cutting-edge projects that align with our commitment to environmental responsibility, social impact, and forward-thinking solutions

This internship position is located in Basel/Rotkreuz, on site / hybrid.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting comprehensive assessments to evaluate the company's commitment and progress in promoting and respecting human rights.

  • Co-develop an Assessment Framework that outlines the key dimensions and indicators to assess Roche's maturity in managing human rights.

  • Collect relevant data and information about Roche's human rights practices. 

  • Evaluate the performance and maturity across the identified dimensions and indicators within the assessment framework

  • Measure compliance against voluntary and mandatory standards, benchmarking with best practices of peer companies.

  • Analyze data and identify gaps and areas for improvement, providing recommendations to enhance our global human rights initiatives.

  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to human rights, identifying trends and opportunities for advancement.

  • Collaborate closely with the Group Chief Compliance Officer and her team, serving as a key contributor to the Roche Human Rights Program.

  • Work cross-functionally with various teams to ensure alignment and integration of human rights principles in our operations.

  • Stay abreast of evolving laws, regulations, and industry standards related to human rights, contributing to the development of policies and procedures.

  • Document the methodology and steps followed during the Human Rights Risk and Maturity Assessment processes 

  • Prepare a comprehensive report that summarizes the assessment process, findings, and recommendations. 

Who You Are

 

You are enrolled or have completed your Bachelor’s / Master’s in a relevant field related to Human Rights, Sustainability, Law, International relations or similar studies at a university within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months and getting to know the pharmaceutical industry.

Furthermore you are

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Human Rights, Law, International Relations).

  • Understanding of human rights principles, frameworks, and international standards.

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex data and provide meaningful insights.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey findings and recommendations.

  • Self-motivated and eager to learn, able to thrive in a non-hierarchical, self-organizing and agile environment

  • Able to work autonomously


  • Open to diverse perspectives


  • Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and precision.

  • Passion for social impact and a drive to contribute to positive change on a global scale.

  • Fluent in English
