As a sustainability and innovation intern, you will work on cutting-edge projects that align with our commitment to environmental responsibility, social impact, and forward-thinking solutions.
As part of this project, we aim to pilot the development of a circularity index in the field of building construction. Construction dominates the global material use and waste generation, with approximately 50% of raw material use and 60% of waste generation attributed to it. Our goal is to apply a circular approach to the material-intensive construction sector, contributing to extending material life, minimizing waste, and optimizing resource utilization. Roche, with extensive ongoing and planned construction activities, recognizes the need for a shift to a circular construction approach to reduce our environmental footprint. The insights gained from this pilot will pave the way for the development of circularity indices in other Roche business areas.
You will be part of the Headquarter sustainability team. We partner with the business to push innovation in sustainability across our value chain. In addition, you will be working with stakeholders from various areas such as architecture, building management, engineering and procurement. This will provide you with the experience of working in cross-functional and international teams, where inclusion and diversity are highly valued.
This internship position is located in Basel, on site / hybrid.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze the feasibility of developing a Roche circular construction index.
Examine existing indicators in the construction sector used to quantify circularity.
Derive recommendations for a comprehensive Roche circular construction index, reflecting planning & design, construction, and end-of-life phases.
Assess indicators needed to consider material scarcity, structural efficiency, service life, Design for Disassembly principles, etc., influencing the conceptual design stage of a building project.
Evaluate potential data sources for availability, accessibility, and reproducibility.
Who You Are
You are enrolled or have completed your Master’s studies at a university, preferably in the field of architecture, building engineering or a closely related field within the last 12 months and you are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months and getting to know the pharmaceutical industry.
Furthermore you bring
A strong interest and passion for sustainability and sustainable construction.
Knowledge about environmental aspects of architecture and building design.
A persistent and structured attitude in dealing with data and working with different IT and office tools.
Skills in project management and collaboration with other colleagues to deliver time-bound results.
A visionary mindset on what can be done.
Self-motivation and an independent working style, with a curious personality.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated commitment to environmental responsibility and social impact.
English language is required; German is a plus.
