Impact Communications Specialist, Foundations

Housed at the World Economic Forum, the Global Shapers Community, the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, and the Forum of Young Global Leaders are collectively referred to as the “Foundations”. Each with its own unique model for creating positive and lasting change, the Foundations support the work of global changemakers, young leaders, and social innovators around the world.

The Foundations bring together a diverse and committed group of changemakers, spanning more than 150 countries and territories, to address the most pressing challenges of our time. To amplify their impact and attract new supporters, we are seeking a Specialist to support our communications and storytelling initiatives.

Reporting lines and interactions

The Specialist, based in Geneva, will report to the Impact Communications Manager. This role involves collaborative efforts with team members from all three Foundations. In particular, the Specialist will engage directly with the Global Shapers Community, including the Head of the Global Shapers Community, as well as the World Economic Forum’s Public Engagement Team.

Main Responsibilities

Communications

  • Contribute to storytelling and communications strategies for the Global Shapers Community, engaging with over 17,000 community members.  
  • Craft messages that resonate with target audiences, increasing brand awareness and visibility and driving engagement across multiple channels.
  • Create and distribute engaging content, including newsletters, web page and blog content, social media posts and videos, and other digital media.
  • Develop content to grow the Foundations’ social media presence and help amplify World Economic Forum social media channels and impact stories.
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of communications strategies, including tracking metrics and analytics, and gathering qualitative data for impact measurement and the community’s Annual Impact Report.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive content calendar that is timely and well organized, as well as contribute to the execution of annual events.
  • Support the Head of the Global Shapers Community on the creation and promotion of thought leadership and key community messages.
  • Liaise with the World Economic Forum’s Public Engagement Team to position Foundation content on strategic Forum platforms.
  • Support across the Foundations Teams when needed.

Partnerships

  • Create content to showcase partners and the impact of their support.
  • Facilitate grant reporting and the disbursement of partner contributions.
  • Create marketing materials to support collective fundraising efforts.
  • Support key partnership announcements, launches, and event participation.
  • Collect and draft impact stories that align with fundraising priorities.
  • Conduct research on potential partners and write summary reports.

The successful candidate will be assessed on:

  • Creative approaches to using multiple platforms and mediums to identify, capture and communicate compelling impact stories at scale.
  • Proactive approach to developing new strategies and products to support strategic communications, storytelling and partnerships.
  • Project coordination and adherence to timelines and guidelines.
  • Professional manner when interacting with colleagues and constituents.

Preferred Requirements and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Five years of professional work experience in implementing communication strategies; social innovation, social enterprise, NGO or international development experience a plus.
  • Experience or knowledge of partnership development and fundraising.
  • Perfect command of verbal and written English; excellent writing skills.
  • Significant experience with social media platforms and tools, including data analysis.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) and other communications software and tools.
