Communications Specialist – Global Collaboration Team

The Global Collaboration team – a cross cutting horizontal that covers all three of the above agendas – curates communities of experts, academics, innovators, youth, civil society and cultural leaders to support active, sustained and impactful participation on the nature and climate agenda and in the CNC’s wider work. The team aims to foster meaningful impact through our centre’s projects and our global meetings. We are responsible for , a community of world-class nature and climate experts and influencers that cultivate informed optimism among Forum public, private, philanthropy leaders.

We are recruiting a communications specialist to support translating the latest science and evidence from the ground for public, private and philanthropy leaders to inform decision making for human health, prosperity and planetary health in the context of the climate crisis. The specialist will work on communications products and workstreams that help make Earth Decides successful.

The specialist will form a part of a project team focused on the "Effects of Polar Climate Change on Global Health and Healthcare", in collaboration with Exeter University and . This project addresses the gap of underreported risks posed by polar tipping points on global health and the healthcare sector. The project seeks to effectively communicate these impacts and enable policymakers, healthcare industry leaders, and citizens in climate-vulnerable regions to develop more effective adaptation plans. The specialist will deliver a communications and engagement strategy to inform target audiences of project activities and findings and mechanisms to encourage deeper interaction and involvement. The will be at the core of activities and will be used when planning communications.

Reporting lines and interactions

The Communications Specialist will report to the Lead, Expert Community who manages Earth Decides. The Global Collaboration Specialist will work in alignment with the Head of the Global Collaboration team, alongside team members, with the Earth Decides community, relevant CNC project teams and the Forum’s Knowledge Communities. The Communications Specialist will also collaborate closely with Forum partners including Exeter University, Arctic Basecamp and , among others.

Main responsibilities

Communications

Support the Global Collaboration team to develop communications that translate the latest science and grassroots evidence for World Economic Forum audiences (presentations, briefs) and our social media channels (e.g. reports, blogs, social videos) to highlight implications to human and planetary health, and inform strategic decision making, including the outcomes of the above-mentioned polar change project.

Support the project management and delivery of science-based communication products in collaboration with internal and external teams, for example: (1) blogs that translate polar risk for human health and wellbeing, (2) an insight report on Industry Risks and Resilience to due for publication in January 2025 and (3) a communications plan to raise awareness of for Forum audiences.

Work with Forum partners and the Earth Decides community to develop a pipeline of pitches and blogs for publication through the .

Develop original content e.g. power-point, Agenda blog articles and social video pitches.

Prepare messaging for key events such as the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos and relevant Conference of the Parties (COPs)

Collaborate with the Forum’s Global Communications Group to prepare appropriate outreach to journalists and with the to harmonize communications across internal teams.

Collaborate with partners to develop framing for new innovative communications strategies like positive tipping points.

Earth Decides community

Support the active recruitment and engagement of Earth Decides members.

Support communication-related workstreams.

Support the design and delivery of high-impact events that engage the Earth Decides community.

Preferred requirements and experience

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or a content field relevant to this role.

Five years of professional work experience in shaping, curating and implementing communication strategies in English (experience working across public, private, international organisation and/or civil society organisations would be a plus)

Prior experience working with nature and climate content (experience on climate and health and/or Earth system science would be a plus)

Ability to tell compelling stories, shape narratives to suit intended audience and present your own and others’ work with confidence.

Perfect command of verbal and written English; excellent writing skills. Portfolio of work to be made available on request.

Experience with social media platforms and tools (experience with community management and events would be a plus)

Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Willingness to take on necessary administrative tasks as needed.

Familiarity with Salesforce CRM system and related platforms (SFMC) helpful.

Excellent command of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), other communication software a plus.
