The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.

Summary of Responsibilities : The Residence Director is a full-time live-in position, active member of the Student Development department, and someone that oversees the execution of a Christian learning community within the residence hall setting. The Residence Director supervises and mentors the building team leaders, providing programming for the hall and campus, developing relationships with residents, and overseeing the functioning of the residence hall. In addition to this, the Residence Director (Full Time) also assists in coordinating housing responsibilities and serves as a judicial specialist.

Essential Responsibilities : (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

Training and Selection Assumes responsibility for organizing the Resident Assistants (RA’s) in the residence hall Orienting them to their responsibilities Conducting training sessions and weekly staff meetings Evaluates the individual RA as well as the overall Residence Life Program Creates, communicates, and carries out vision for the residence hall community. Participates in campus Residence Life staff orientation. Implements in-service training sessions as requested. Takes leadership in the selection, training, and evaluation of the Residence Life Staff. Developmental Knows students living in their residence hall. Counsels/advises students about personal, spiritual, academic or social issues. Consults on disciplinary problems in the residence hall, as well as holds discussions with students referred by RA’s concerning inappropriate behavior. Responds to maintenance and other issues that arise in residence hall living areas Coordinates and assists RA’s with residence hall social, educational, spiritual, and cultural programming. Provides RA staff and students assistance in the development of community in the residence hall Assists RA staff with individual counseling and roommate conflict mediation. Coordinates with area RD-Graduate Assistants (GA’s) to plan and implement programs and events based on students class and needs. Promotes good communication and relationships with students, Student Development personnel, maintenance staff, administration, faculty and community. Oversight Maintains regular contact with the RA’s to check on their progress. Works closely with RA’s and Building Team Leaders in planning activities and maintaining the residence. Manages the overall operation of the residence facility, keeping it comfortable, safe and sanitary. Is concerned about the security of the residence and its occupants. Administers room sign-up in an individual residence hall and assists with the all campus process. Maintains standards established by the College as set forth in the Student Handbook. Hears and adjudicates in hall disciplinary cases for the Student Development Office. Opens and closes residence hall before and after each college break. Plans and implements duty schedules for RA’s. Plans to be on campus during any period in which there are no classes, but during which the residence halls are open. Oversees class based and other area programming for assigned residential area. Responds to campus-wide emergencies and serves as the primary on-call staff representative for student issues that arise across campus after work hours. General Responsibilities Attends weekly meetings with the Director of Residence Life and/or the Student Development Office Abides by all College policies and regulations. Enforces all College policies, rules and regulations governing residence halls and houses Serves as a liaison with the Infirmary, Counseling Center, Physical Plant, Food Service, Security, and Business Office. Takes administrative responsibility for all tasks assigned by the Director of Residence Life. Responsible for staying Saturday after commencement and makes sure every student is checked out. Housing Coordinator Serve as the Housing Coordinator for the College for new, returning and summer residents. Develop, implement and / or supervise programs and services in support of assigned housing program. Develop and maintain policies and procedures on housing, which may include eligibility, lease agreements, petitions, retention, emergency, or temporary housing, special interest housing, and riders or leases. Gather information on college breaks and beginning of the school year when students are returning early to assure their ID cards are programmed for their return. Inspects vacant rooms; assesses charges to students after check-out inspection. Maintain content and design of publications regarding all housing information. Responsible for opening and closing residential facility complex for the academic year and other service periods, including issuing and controlling keys / ID cards and managing the changes of room lock codes. Administrative: Organize the RA applications and the RA hiring process each academic year. Distribute and collect all RA employment paperwork packets and assist in oversight of the hiring process. Provide management, oversight and assistance to GA RDs with conduct hearings, meetings, mediations. Assist DRL in suspension-level conduct response. Assist in the creation and development of RA trainings and Residence Life programming. Update, collect and assess all Residence Life program assessments including but not limited to conduct evaluations, RA training assessments, etc. Stand in for the Director of Residence Life at meetings where the Director is unable to attend. Supervision: Supervise student employees to include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning/directing work, coaching, evaluating performance, affirming, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment. Job Requirements - Administrative:

General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job. Physical: Must be able to perform the following: talking, hearing, and seeing. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, scanners, and telephones. Individuals must also reside on campus in order to fulfill the role and job requirements. Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Qualifications:

Minimum: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in higher education, counseling or related field Experience: 1-2 years of experience in higher education, counseling or related field. Knowledge and experience with college students and/or higher education environment Skill/Abilities: Work with a diverse group of College constituents. Present oneself in a professional and collegial manner. Work independently and meet deadlines. Express and role model one’s Christian faith in an open enrollment environment. Counsel/advise the college age population. Integrate professional practice from a Christian world view. Work in a team setting to accomplish the mission of the College and the Student Development department. Intervene and serve students in times of crisis. Work with students, families, and College administrators. Maintain a valid driver’s license and insurability status. Christian Commitment: An eligible candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of an evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work. Preferred: Education: Master’s Degree in higher education, counseling or related field Experience: 2-4 years of experience in Residence Life and Housing.
