Location: Remote – based in Asia/AfricaAither, a leading Swiss trading house specializing in environmental commodities, is seeking a Senior Carbon Expert to join its carbon project development team. The selected candidate will contribute to delivering high-quality, transparent, and scalable climate solutions.As a Senior Carbon Expert, you will work closely with the Head of Carbon Services (NbS) to ensure delivery of carbon services to clients to enable high-quality project development around Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) projects focused on Forestry. You will lead the end-to-end development of carbon projects, ensuring compliance with major standards (VCS, Gold Standard, CAR, etc.).Key Responsibilities:Project Development & ManagementLead the full project lifecycle of Forestry projects (with an emphasis on ARR – Terrestrial & Mangroves; and IFM projects being considered a key plus) from Feasibility assessment to Monitoring report leading to successful issuances.Prepare Project Design Documents (PDDs), Monitoring Reports, and lead Validation/Verification processes under VCS, Gold Standard, or other frameworksCoordinate with clients, project proponents, internal teams, auditors, and stakeholders (NGOs, governments, local communities) to ensure smooth project development and delivery.Manage project timelines, budgets, and risks to ensure timely delivery of carbon credits.Carbon Accounting & Technical ExpertiseConduct carbon stock assessments, baseline scenario analysis, and additionality demonstrations following standard-specific methodologies.Ensure accuracy in GHG emission reduction/removal calculations and alignment with recognized methodologies (e.g., VM0047, VM0033, GS A/R, VM0045 etc.) and that project meet standards requirements of VCS, Gold Standard, CCB, CAR, ACR, or compliance schemes.Support MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) processes and respond to auditor queries.Key Requirements:Master's degree in Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Engineering or related fields.8+ years of experience in carbon project development, in ARR projects or in combination of ARR, WRC, & IFM projects.Proven track record in leading Feasibility studies, developing PDDs, carbon modeling, MRVs and managing VCS/Gold Standard Agricultural projects.Strong technical expertise and experience in GS A/R v2.1, VM0047 methodology.Good technical expertise in VM0045 or any other relevant IFM methodologyExperience with GIS tools, remote sensing tools.Familiarity with MRV systems and working with auditors (e.g., DOE/VVB).Fluency in English (additional languages, e.g., Spanish & French advantageous).High preference for candidates with experience as: VVB auditors or from carbon consulting firms.The position is remote, but a high preference for candidates based out of Asia/Africa.Why Aither?In this role, you will lead high-impact NbS carbon projects with climate and community benefits, work with a global team of carbon market experts, and receive a competitive salary, performance bonuses, and opportunities for professional growth.Aither fosters a flexible working environment that greatly respects the personal lives of all employees.
