Role Description

To complement our team of scientists and to support our growth, we are looking for a

Scientist / Senior Scientist for Solution Small-Angle X-ray Scattering Analysis (m/f/d)

As a Scientist / Senior Scientist for solution Small-Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS), you will play a key role in delivering advanced SAXS-based characterization of macromolecules in solution for (bio)pharma clients. You will plan and conduct SAXS measurements—either directly or by supervising experiments at partner laboratories and synchrotron facilities. For each project, you will design and optimize experimental plans, act as the main liaison between customers and facilities, and ensure smooth collaboration. You will analyze and model data, preparing clear, high-quality reports. In addition to project work, you will contribute to continuous method improvement and the development of innovative technologies that keep our capabilities at the forefront of industry needs. As a complementary activity, you will also perform Synchrotron X-ray Powder Diffraction measurements and data analysis.

Qualifications

A. Mandatory - extensive hands-on and modelling experience in SAXS techniques

• M.S in physics or equivalent, completed with a PhD in the field of SAXS or SANS applied to macromolecules in solution.
• Excellent knowledge of X-ray scattering, in particular the SAXS theory and its applications.
• Multi-year hands-on experience with SAXS or SANS measurements, data modelling and interpretation.
• Strong skills in applied mathematics, computational science and programming
• Ability to work in a very rigorous and autonomous way, performing tasks with extremely high accuracy and reliability, detecting deviations and inconsistencies.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and operate with flexibility regarding working hours. Strong customer-orientation mindset; ability to develop innovative yet robust solutions to meet specific customer needs.
• Open to travel to synchrotron facilities, conferences and customer premises outside Switzerland, if and when necessary.
• Strong team player.
• Excellent knowledge of English (spoken, written) and demonstrated experience in writing high-quality scientific communications.

B. Valued

• Postdoctoral experience in SAXS or SANS applied to macromolecules in solution.
• Experience with SAXS using Synchrotron facilities.
• Experience with the application of SAXS in a (bio)pharmaceutical company or a contract service organization.
• Experience with X-ray powder diffraction techniques for the characterization of pharmaceutical solid forms.
• Good knowledge of German.
• Business acumen. Interest in contributing to the strategic growth and commercial development of our company

Depending on your profile, you may qualify either for a Scientist or a Senior Scientist level position.
